so i dont know if any of you remember the thread we had a bit ago talking about getting dual sporters and what not

but i finally got my crf450x on the road.
its so much, i didnt even need to put blinkers on it either, so it still looks bad *** :p haha

but its kool to ride down the road through town then hop on a trail if you want

saves on gas money too

anyone who was looking into doing this, you should for sure

What exactly did you have to do to get it street legal? Just tires and brake lights?
You think it is possible to put a cr250 on the road?

Why would you want a 2 stroke on the road anyways, sweet about the crf though.

thats awsome man, i will be doing the same within the next few years. i have noticed a few new dual sport/supermoto bikes around town, i must not be the only one who is into saving gas and having fun around here. ;)

simple, to have a 2-stroke you could ride on the road... ive been dreaming of a aluminum framed CR250/CR500 hybrid made street legal... you could whoop some crotch rocket but in some light to light drags....

although im not much of a 2 stroke fan, and usually wouldnt even like the idea of a 2 stroke dirtbike being converted to on road use, check this bike out. a guy over at another site i go to did this in california no less(known for being the hardest state to get dirtbikes plated)

it started as a service honda cr500afx. since the motor is in a crf250x chassis it came with the light and high output stator. instead of registering it as a cr500 which would be basically impossible to get plated, it was registered as the 250x which has an emmisions sticker.he then added the supermoto rims, tires, rotors, and calipers. says hes has almost 15g invested

sure is insane though, 100% street legal

Is it possible to get a cr85 on the road legaly?

My budies got one that he wants to get rid of. And I need a back up ride to work, my work is only 20 min doun the road.

Is it possible?
Is it practical?

I live in NH

if u live in NH u most likely can. i bought my xr50 up there and the kid drove it to work every day! it was an 88cc, and seeing cr85's r about the same amount of cc's why not?

he didnt have any signals on it just a motorcyle plate and he could drive right down the main road.

85 use a lot of gas and have small gas tanks. if your cruzin for 30 mins at 45 mph... you could run out of gas maybe... dont take my word for it

The requirements for making a motorcycle street legal vary considerably state to state.

I made my 01 xr250r street legal, the hardest part was to get the title past dmv and hope they didn't read the paragraph about "for off-road use only". I've been pulled over in almost every township, because it looks so much like a dirtbike they thought that the plate came off of a street bike and this bike wasn't registered. Some questioned if the plate was real. Mine has dual sport lights, mirror on the left side and a license plate, it doesn't look much like "normal" dual sport bike you buy from the dealer. If you plan on riding on roads alot, plan on replacing your tires alot more often and get some kind of keyswitch as most dirtbikes don't come with wired switches. I myself use a key switch off of a crf50 on my bikes and on my xr I have a key switch from a trx250r and another toggle switch in a hidden place, Also plan on getting a disk lock for the front and back brake rotors. Believe it or not, but the key switch will stop a walk by and kick bike theft, it won't stop a pro or 2 people with a pickup or trailer.

Unless you're including speed limits, you could probably gear an 85 to go atleast 115-125 km/h, a modded one, maybe 130.. My friends near stock 96 RM80 goes atleast 100-110. Of course, I live in the country so I can cruise up to 120 all the way to work. And that CR500AFX is .. .. I WANT IT :grr:

Do you have a link to the forums? My truck is killing me on gas.

the SM's are defnitly Too heavy and slow:(

but my 450x is just perfect and it would be even better with higher gearing. But its fine through town, im not planning on running up the highway right now

but it wasnt hard to get a plate at all
took me 10 minutes at the DMV to get a plate handed to me

inspection will be different

right now i dont have a speeda mirror or horne

just DOT tires and a little LED light in the back ive gone by countless cops. I dont think they are too worried about it, or even notice how much it looks like a motocross bike..

they see the light on the front and turn their heads away haha:D

yeah i have heard from quite a few people that registering an offroad bike in NY is very tough. once and awhile guys slip through and get the plate, but most are sent out of the dmv and told not to come back with that bike. that is the reason why i am going with a zuki drz s. granted, its alot heavier and slower than say a 450x, but its a ton more reliable, can handle the 40mile a day highway commute to school, good gas mileage, a ton of aftermarket parts/free mods that can wake it up, and with some work, they can look pretty good in my opinion. heres are some examples of what im planning on(some photoshop involved).

Husqvarna's 2006 lineup is worth a looksy. Probably not the best choice for serious road work (neither is a CRF, IMO), but they've got a bunch of models that are 50 state street legal.

the 2007 ktm 450exc and 525exc are both street legal out of the box also. if i wasnt planning on using the bike to commute, i would definitly have my sights set on the ktm. SRH, maybe look into the 07 exc's since they will be plateable in NY and still very much like real mx bikes.

ny300exrider...i checked ktm's website and it says those bikes arent available in the U.S.

they said it about the 07's? i heard from a bunch of different sources that the 07 dual sport models will be available in the us. previous year ktms were street legal overseas but never here. you probably misread something. i WISH the ktm motors could handle commuting like the drz can. its all good though, ill have a little challenge getting that nerdy looking drz to look like a sleek mx bike with a plate.

there are a bunch of new ktm changes that im really looking forward to getting more info/pics on.
