View Full Version : Need opinions on a trail setup

Bike is an 01 400ex. I ride mostly tight trails, but I also do a lot of riding on gravel and pavement, plue the dunes a couple times a year. I don't want to spend a whole lot on it right now, but I would like it to be a little wider to make it more stable. I little lower in the front couldn't hurt. I was thinking about just throwing in a wider rear axle and playing with the factory shocks for now. Any suggestions on a rear axle for trails/dunes/roads? I don't know how wide is too wide.

go for a good set of +1 arms and a nice set of elka recs for the front and dont bother with the axle its the front end that'll make it corner better and be more stable.

wont wheel spacers do the same thing as +1 a-arms?

get a full set of 450r takeoff radials and rims. JH Racing had them for about $300 a set.

if your not going to race i would just go with spacers, they are cheaper and if your not jumping then its not really going to hurt anything, and yea go with the elka recs. if you want to lower it a bit

yes, but don't put them on the back because u'll bend ur hubs. the front is ok because the front end moves independantly.

I have both sets of radials (stock and 450r). The 450r Dunlops are more aggressive than the stock tires.

you could get a wider set of meats (like a 20.11.9 tire)
get something with alot of bite for the trail, like a Razr2, holeshot HD, or Kenda Knarly.

also, you could buy a set of 450r shocks to bolt on. you can usually find a decent set for around $200-$300 on ebay. they are an affordable upgrade with alot of performance.:)

i have the original razrs on mine and they are awsome. amost too much grip. they work great on the trails. my uncle also has them on his raptor 660 and he is very pleased.
