I bought the exact ones for my R and they work great. You could mount them on the handlebars but I wanted them concealed so I made an aluminum bracket off the upper shock mount. You will need a longer bolt for each side. The lights worked great there and were a lot brighter than stock, I would take my buddies 86 R out just to compare his stock light vs. this setup on mine and it was a huge difference. The only thing is that the lights come with 50W bulbs which is too large for the stock stator. You will either have to have your stock stator rewound or simply buy 25W or 35W bulbs to replace them. Wiring them up was a piece of cake as well, I would sodder the connections so they stay together and not simply tape where the could vibrate apart. If you need a pic to show you how I mounted them, just let me know.

Wiring them up should be simple. Each light has a ground wire so connect both grounds together and run that connection to the ground wire for the lights. The remain wires are connected to the power wires from the light harness.

If you check the manual sticky at the top of the forum you can find a zipped version of the service manual.

I will be using similar lights and an LED tail light. Oh yeah, there are several versions of the lights so make sure you get the ones that have 35watt bulbs like Tom mentioned.
