I just recently had my bike upgraded to the 440.... when I had it done the mechanic told me it would be best to stay with the stock compression if I was not going to have my rockers hardened. Has anyone gone to the 11:1 piston without hardened rockers? Is it be a bad idea?

Can I change to that piston without alot of work?

I don't really know about the hardening rockers things but changing a piston is cake. Very easy.

You don't need hardened rockers if you are changing to a higher compression. If you are at 11:1 you should be running at least 50/50 with race fuel. this will keep the temps down and result in a longer lasting motor.

Right now I am at 10.5:1

just running premium should be fine. Maybe run octane boost or add some race fuel for races.
