Well my R was alive. then I bolted the sprocket on and the bolt twisted off. Used a bolt extractor, it broke. so now the motor is back apart to change out the counter shaft. My question, do I need to change the main seals? I thought I heard every time you split the cases you must change the seals, but the motor was together for only a couple days before I put it in the frame.

unless you've torn a seal taking it apart i personally would say your ok , sounds like you've not even run it up ?

Started on the second kick. Ran it just for a couple minutes for the intial heat and cool cycle. Was thinking of welding the sprocket on since the countershaft is now officially f'd up anyway, but thought better of it. I just wanna ride dam mit!!

How would I know that I tore a seal?

drill out a slightly larger whole, the retap it. do NOt weld the sprocket too it, ive seen peeple do that and it always phooks sumthin up.

but no, you wouldnt need to replace the seals just be careful not to tear them when yur taking it apart.
