How many people's steering stem is bent? I bent mine when i rolled it down a hill. I just want to make sure that it's not a big deal and it happens. Thanks for your help

i used a 20 ton press, so no it wasnt...i broke it by going off a double in 3rd, and landing on the edes of my right tires, almost vertically i did every thing i could to try to weight down the other side, man i wish i had that on tape, about 3 forward rolls and 2 front flips and i think when it was done it was right side up......i also lost my dam starter button and that just makes me wanna cry oh well done....

Bent mine too! Why bother trying to straighten it when new ones are only $60 or so.

i saw one bent b4 on a friends 400ex that it actually rubbed into the plastic that went over the gas tank he had to buy a new one. the plastic has scratches about 1/4 deep in it from riding it home. that was funny watching that quad roll it probably rolled 10 times down a hill and the bars went right into a tree.

I bent mine too when I crashed. It dug into the plastic covering the tank but its now biggie. Instead of buying a new one, I got the idea to pound it bask with a sledge hammer. Its bent ever so slghtly but it was a real easy fix and its not noticable at all when you ride. I recomend trying it before buying a new one! :)

Bent mine, too. I think Honda makes them outta tinfoil! I just finnished putting in a Doug Roll Designs +2" stem. Saweeeet! Anti vibe mounts too. Wasn't cheap. Wanna play, you gotta pay! I don't trust the cheesy stock one.

Does anyone put a lifetime gurantee on their steering stems it would be nice if i could buy a 300$ stem and not worry about bending it. or are they basically un bendable.

Ive bent mine twice now and straightened it both times and replaced some tie rods also, I wouldn't suggest anyone to buy an aftermarket stem that is beefed up service honda sells new stems for around 40 bucks and tie rods are cheap, if you beef up the stem youll just bend something more expensive that wont be so easily replaced. I talked to a guy at the last ride who put a $300.00 stem on his and rolled her down a hill he said the stem was fine it held up great but he mangled his bars his tie rod and cracked the frame where the steering stem is attached to the bottom of the frame. I think the cheap stem would have been a lot easier to replace.

then he can buy an aftermarket frame :)...the stock ones are junk, i bent mine because i thought stock ones were 300 to and i was saving up my cash for something else, if i bend it again, i will probably be going for a chrome one .

There's a simple solution to keep your steering stem from bending. Stop crashing. YEAH RIGHT!!!! Like that will ever happen. Crashing is 1/2 the fun.

If you never rolled it in 1 1/2 years then you aint riding it hard enough..

10-13-2001, 03:26 AM
while if you don't think i ride hard enough to bad..i just don't wreck

Have you ever been at the TT track? We went there for the Northeast trail riders thing. The Cross Country track is awesome. You should see the huge up hill.

We live in Columbia City, IN. For us it was a six hour drive there. It was well worth it.
