Will a 400ex aftermarket or stock axle fit on a 250R. Also will the sprocket hub and an nut work fine.

The axle will fit but the splines on the wheel hubs are different for sure.

so I would have to use 400ex hubs also. So would 250R rims fit those hubs or would I have to use 400ex rims

Any wheel with a 4 on 110 bolt pattern will work, IE, 400ex, 450r, 300ex etc also the Suzuki Z400 wheels as well.

400ex and 250r have the same bolt pattern as does 450r and pretty much any honda sport atv.

I actually use 450r hubs on the 400ex axle they share the same spline count. you can also use 250x or 300ex hubs, they all fit. I paid like 35 bucks for the 450r hubs off ebay and they were off an 2005. the rear brake hub and lock nut will too. the sprocket hub is the same, and really it is an easy swap to do. With 250r parts getting rarer, and 400ex and 450r parts being everywhere, i figured it would be eaiser and a ton cheaper than going full afermarket. Hope this helps

I have an RPM 400EX axle on my R so take a look at the list of parts I had to use.

The axle came with the wheel hubs and sprocket hub.
400EX wheel hubs (I tried my 250R hubs but they did not fit because of the spline difference)
400EX antifade (or rear disk hub and locknut)
400EX rear rotor
400EX caliper
400EX caliper mount
