FMF POWER BOMB with a factory4 silencer and the 12 tooth is mind blowing power through out. torque of a 400ex speed and power of a 450r. Unbeatable!! Just fir anybody thinking about doing this,I highly reccomend it,You wont be sorry:devil:

I'd like to do the same, but worried about clearance issues. You are not getting any chainwear on the swingarm or anywhere else are you?

I left it stock and am happy. And i run 22" mudders!!It has the power to pull them IMO!!!

So you are not having any issues with the 12 tooth as far as the chain wearing on the swinarm or anything? Plenty of clearance with the small sprocket?

NO clearance problems at all,It will were on the chain buffer on the swingarm a little faster but thats minor. their is clearance behind the spocket to so do not worry about the cases, mine does not have a mark on it.the 12 has been on there for about 4 months. :D buffer will last a long time as long as you keep chain lubed up, even with the 12 on there..:)

I forgot, I also made up a new case saver to match up with the new sprocket. traced out old one on some 3/16 steal ,then made it fatter on the sprocket side works great, mite have not needed to do this but made me feel better. anyway just thought I would tell you.:D :macho

Thanks dude, appreciatte all the info. I really feel like the stock gearing is just a bit tall. Wonder a bit though about how I will keep the front end down :eek2: Tough enough already :D

Sprocket is made by moose:( But it was the only 1 I could fine.Ma n its worth it though. Its actually really easy to change front sprockets, just loosen your chain tensioner and roll it forward take the bolt out of sprocket and slip the hole works off the spline.

As far as I know there is no wear but I just put it on the other day and I only rode for an hour or so.But I'll keep an eye on it.

I am running 13/39 on my 05. And, I love it.
I was a little leary of running a 12 on the front. I was afraid it would wear out the chain quicker. Due to the sprocket being smaller, and putting more of a "bind" on the chain as it goes around the sprocket.

anyway, i like the 13/39 setup.

You are right it will were the sprockets and chain out a little faster.:( :( It does pull on it all harder. :D

Sidewinder has or can make any sprocket size you want. Just another option to consider...

I ran a 12 tooth on a Raptor without really noticing any additional wear. One trick to increasing the life of your chain and sprockets is to change out your front sprocket every 20 hours of riding. Buy 3 front sprockets and rotate them. Front sprockets wear much quicker which wears the chain which wears the rear sprocket. I had a Sidewinder setup on a 400ex for over 3 years this way.

I cant see it making much of a difference its only 1 tooth difference.maybe a little wear but.....

13/39 gearing would mean the front goes around 3 times for every full revolution of the rear. Going to 12/39 would mean 3.25 revolution on the front. Every 4 revolutions of the rear means 1 extra turn on the front versus 13/39 gearing. It doesn't seem like much but it is like interest...it adds up over time. Front sprockets are cheap so you are right, if you like it then I would go for it.

One tooth will make a huge difference on any bike.

Are you talking wear wise or power wise?

I put a 41 on the rear of mine. Its about the same gear ratio as installing a 12 up front. I had to put one washer between my PRM skid and the swingarm. I like it much better now.

Both really, but I was referring to power.

OOOHHH yeah the power is GREAT!!! But the wear should be that much.

Find a Tucker Rocky Distributer and they carry a 12 tooth sprocket
for around 12 to 15 bucks, sorry i cant remember for sure just bought one a couple of weeks ago and threw away the reciept. My local honda shop is a TR Distributer. Man, what a HUGE difference, the bike runs great now, real nice bottom end.

Should mention to anyone riding on a track with 18" tires not to try this mod. Switching to 18" tires is already the equivalent of dropping below a 12 tooth front sprocket.

I do really well just running in 3rd gear at Breezewood with 13/38 (stock sprockets) and 18" tires. I like the added pull it has down low in 3rd gear coming out of the turns this way.

Do you have to make your chain shorter ( cut links out for this )

Scro
06-18-2006, 07:23 PM
You should just have to tighten a little more, that's all.

Na, You should have enough adjustment in your chain tensioner for 1 tooth.

How much top end did you lose

4ABURN
06-21-2006, 06:36 AM
I would say about 10 MPH of the top. But I use the smaller gears more so it does not matter to me alot. Your will notice it though.:D

jtjpilot
07-10-2006, 01:17 PM
I don't think you will loose 10mph off top end. That seems extreme. I dropped a front tooth on my 400ex and lost about 2-3 mph. Really didn't feel a loss in top speed at all.

fatkid400
07-10-2006, 02:33 PM
Nah you wouldnt lose 10 but it is noticable.I m in the woods on tight trails so I dont get in the top end alot but I do hit the rev limiter ALOT more:D

I would think you could hit in the low 70's but dropping 2 teeth on the front(from 14 to 12) is a bit much I'd only drop 1 tooth at the most at a time.If 1 is'nt enough then try dropping 1 up front and go up 1 on the rear,Kinda split them up alittle.Going up 1 on the rear is like dropping a 1/2 tooth on the front.

You'll probably have to order a 12 tooth. I dont know about a crf fitting a trx. You can probably ask a honda dealer to cross match the part #'s to see.
