Ya thats definately the problem, it sounds like your bearings are shot

Yea for sure change before you smoke the carrier too. If you have a stock bearing carrier and its shot when you inspect the bearings & carrier, i would get a double wide after market aluminum carrier with a grease jerk. on ebay you can find a nice nice brand new one for half of what a new stock ****ty bearing carrier costs.
