So I just about got my engine all put back together and the woodrift key wouldnt fit in the slot on the new crank. so I got the edge started and tapped it in using a hammer and drift. Nothing too hard I think. Any way now when I turn the engine over it seems like the bearings are making alot more noise than before. Maybe its just that I have the clutch, counter balancer, etc installed the gears are making noise. So do you think a little taping could mess up the bearings? Also what is the usual gap between the stator and the crank? On the inside where the bolt washer goes. The pickup looks like it is in the right spot, but there is about 1/4" between where the flat for the washer is and the flat machined on the crank.
