okay i think a 426ex with stage 2 cam and 450R will pull and beat a stock 450R what do you guys think on this i would like to know before a big purchase is in order.

i'd have to say the 450r is gonna win if its a fair race with even riders.

It depends. A built to the hilt 426 (13:1 compression, head work, intake/exhaust, carb, etc.) might give a bone stock 04'/05' a run for it's money. The 06' 450Rs have a totally re-worked engine which is faster.

Do a little tuning to any 450R (intake/exhaust/jetting) and few 400EXs are gonna be on par with it. Look at it this way: It's pretty easy to get 40+ HP out of a 450r; it's pretty hard to 40+ HP out of a 400ex.

i raced a piped 450r with my 440 on a rolling start we were dead even till i topped out then he pulled away. both had stock gearing but mine had 18 inch tires . i think if it was dead stop i could get him off the line but he would end up catching me at top end.

i hate to say it, but it just doesnt pay off taking underdogs and supping them up to beat the 450s... youre much better off in the long run, to sell your 400ex, or lt 400, or whatever, and just getting the new 450...

for one, youre gunna drop a ton on money into your bike, just to get it to where the 450 is stock

2- all tricked out, youre not going to have near the reliability that the stock 450 has, and it sucks sitting in camp with a broken bike

3- youre going to have to continue to drop a bunch of money into your bike to keep it running, so that sucks in additon to the down time

4- youre gunna have to run race gas and that adds up if you ride alot...

and all this just to keep up and not even smoke the new 450s...

the new 450s just start so much father ahead of the 400s... to be honest, this is the realization i have come to with my 250r, and my 250r is leaps and bounds ahead of the 400ex... so im at the point to where im not dropping any more money into my R, and am just waiting till i can get a YFZ and at that time i will actually throw my stock jug back on my bike and keep it as a 2nd bike...

my 426:

ross 426, moly coated piston skirt, thermal coated piston dome, 11:1 compression, light ross piston pin, TC MX cam (grind 924), FCR 40mm (the crf450 dirtbike carb), full sparks pipe, uni filter, air box lid on, gt thunder ignition

this bike against my stock 450r would pull my 450r in a drag a good 4 bike lengths. after i put the HRC cam and a sparks pipe on my 450 the 426 was left behind.

if you are talking about a 06 450r the 426 might not beat it right off of the show room floor.

My stroker pulls away from my buddies 05 450r w/full exhaust, filter and modified lid. We tried 2nd-4th gear starts, the results were the same, mine pulls away.

I think If you got a good 426 build, good full system, airbox mods, cam, high compression pistons you'll eat 450R's for lunch.

i am going to make a 426 with 12:5 comp and a stage 2 cam with better racing valves( i have chromly and i am going with titanium racing valves and copper slides) and i am i have a 450R carb and i am going to do more internal work. i am also going with a full programable cdi.
