Ok, I Got a Loan today to pay off my parents and the guy I bought the quad from. I Got the loan for $1000 more than I need, for new parts on the R. Here's what I want:

- smaller tires
- +2 A-arms
- Wider Axle
- Fat bars

I already Ordered nerf bars, so thats all set. You think I could get all this for $1000?

axle: 400
arms: 450-500.

Your out of dough my friend.

Just get some Klaws for the back. Get a set of Longhorn fat bars (Ive heard good stuff), and then you will be set.

Go cheap, G force axle, like 200 bucks and Burgard A Arms- 450.

from hellbound racing i got my burgard a arms for like 380 or around there

06-08-2006, 10:01 PM
you cant buy all that stuff for 1000 but If I were were you I would just buy tires and a-arms... get some sick lookin a-arms for 700 and buy some Holeshot or somin for 300...dont buy a bunch of crap for 1000 buy less stuff but top of the line.

Am i the only one that thinks extended a-arms require a different shock setup?

Put the money toward a modern 4 stroke.

You could very easily get all of that stuff and more for that money, but shop wisely, look for some good deals on used parts right on this page. It can be done my friend.:macho

I HATE dumchit uneducated comments like this:grr: Do you realize he just bought this R? Apparently he doesn't want a 4 stroke.

ShiftFMX, look around on ebay if you want the most bang for the buck, I know houser has been selling off discontinued R products for fairly cheap. RPM sometimes has some brand new axles on there for sale as well. Just take your time looking around and you will find good deals.:)

Honestly if it was me, I would take that extra $1000 and put it towards the loan. Interest and payments will be less in the long run. I recently took out a $1000 personal loan, and paid 700 cash right back at them within a few weeks. When it came time to pay the rest off, I was glad I did.

Depends where you work though. It was hard for me to afford the payments.

I would do the same. In the long run you will have more money.

Sorry, not everyone wants a 4 stroke

I'd get some burgard aarms and a LSR axle, wait off for the tires and bars till you have a little more money.

If you were looking for some tires, I have a set or 18" Turfs with about 60% tread left, one has a plug but holds air. You pay for actual shipping and like 20 bucks they're yours. But congrats on the quad!

That would be a nice way to waste a grand...

You should get some original plastics or at least this year's 400EX ones!

Anyway, you can probably pull off the arms and the axle if you get one of those G-Force ones. Don't worry about it being bad quality, my friend has one on his Raptor and it's very nice. We had a hard time getting it installed, but that's Yamaha's fault. I wouldn't skimp on the arms if I were you. I really don't know if you'll be able to get the fat bars or the tires, you'll probably have to get one or the other.

But since that thing is new (at least thats what I thought) I'd go through it and see if anything is gonna go wrong with it before you blow that wad (I made the same mistake and mine sat in the garage for 4 or 5 months after about a month of owning it)

Honestly, why would you want to ride 20 year old bike? Unless, you have $5,000 to put into it to make it "semi-modern".
250Rs have seen their day.

1. I bought my R fully aftermarket for less than a stock 450r, yfz, etc. Aftermarket frame, shocks, axle, arms, you name it.

2. My R probably makes more power than most modern 4 strokes.

3. Not everyone and their mother has the original R.

4. The only thing 20 years old on my R is my bottom end.

250r's make good power for cheap. I wanted something fully aftermarket comparable to a 450r but without the outrageous price tag. Different strokes......

I agree sell it and buy a 4 stroke, 2 strokes are old and annyoing, and much less otherwise all 2-stroke guys care about is lets see how fast we can go in a straight line... WHIPPEE sounds like a blast... ... umm not really..

Don't forget about the frames bending. You can't forget about that (Yep, 18 years and my frame's never been welded)

You got the bit about Raptors right... So you're telling me you can beat me on a track with a 400EX, then?

Well if you do go with wider a arms, unless your front shocks are way too stiff for you, then you will need a re-valve. I would get the tires, and axle, that will put you at just over 500 dollars, then I would put the other 500 to the loan, or maitnence on the quad if something breaks.

what kind of shoks do you have?
i'd go for the tires and the bars.

i had a similar issue, i went for tires and the rear axle, and had stock front, when got the axle and installed it, the quad looked like a drag bike, so, i had to upgrade the front also.

save some money and widen the front and the back at the same time.
