Ya, def. the 400ex is a great trail quad and is real good for xc racing, if your real experienced and want to really get into racing the 450's are pretty good quads for that. But it sounds like the 400ex would do you good.

idk if you r serious about racing then you need to look into the 450s and you can grow into it. the 400ex is great but takes alot of $$$ to get it race rready to race 450s.

Try finding a dealer with 05' 450r's with kick start, they are going right off the floor here for 4,999, at Metropowersports. Thats almost a 1000 less than the 400ex, but they only have a few left. My buddy is picking one up on Monday. Once he gets good at riding I won't have a chance hanging with him on my 400ex.

I just bought a new 06 400 and I love it, I also love when everyone talks outdated, because it means reliability to me... I also ride a edge-X, 5000 miles and still going strong....

"Try finding a dealer with 05' 450r's with kick start"

This is the best advice I have seen. I've harescranbled a 400ex, '05 450R and '06 450R. The 400 can't hang with the other quads without a lot of mods. The 05 450R's are relatively cheap now and you will learn to handle the power quickly. The '06 450R's are more costly (initially and for replacement parts) and the power is too much for someone new on a sport quad.

well i have a timber wolf 250 that runs strong and bought a 400ex mainly for more power and to get into racing later on... like hairscrambles and maybe a mx now and then. i just got it like 3 weeks ago and the power is awsome compared to my timberwolf/bear tracker so im not complaining. i have trails through my woods and i to do a lil bit of mud rideing just have to move your wait a little more. jumping i get twice the air i got on the timber wolf plus there are more power modds. i love it i just ordered nerfs, heelguards a parkingbreack block off. and im getting some motor work done right now saposed to get it back tomarrow.. cant wait im getting wheels when i pick it up and maybe hand guards. and in july my bro is coming home and his friends are coming over to go riding wich will be boring cuz ill smoke all of them
