I have a ported and piped 250R with a boyesen rad valve, and have been noticed that it won't rev it out really well... It's like its hitting a rev limiter. I regapped spark plug to .018 which helped but the problem is still there. My question is could it be the reeds going bad? Will the reeds effect top end performance? Thanks in advance guys.

I'm having this same problem!!! anyone have any ideas? I think it has something to do with the additives they are putting in gas nowadays:rolleyes:

if it is the additives we can thank the damn envrionmentalists. But there has to be some kind of solution.

Run race gas, all the new stuff in gas now makes my other small engine run a little strange. My R's wont run on pump gas without a lot less comp. VP red and C12 are really good stuff, and it is one less variable with jetting because your gas is constant.

any ideas, or thoughts with regards to running av gas. I've heard both sides, and i'm wondering how many of you guys run it in your R's.

And are there anymore ideas about the reeds?

if you suspect the reeds then pull the cage out and inspect them. look for freyed corners and whether or not they are raised away from the cage. a symtom of bad/sprung/broken reeds is hard starting, rough idle and/or not idling at all.

as for the gas..... i'm not so sure you can blame things on the gas, unless of coarse yall are getting old bad stuff some where. which happens. i get my gas from the same place i get for my automobiles. religously

i run it and always have. i havent had a bit of problems with it. i am right at the limits with my cr/octane 185 to 187 and run 93 gas. i'm running a ported 265 cc, rad valve, 38mm carb, fmf phatty and jetted SPOT on with the lid removed, so that i'm a lil fat when i run the lid on in the creeks. my engine is super crisp with the lid on or off and will rev to the moon. infact its sooo torkee that i've aquired the nik name Snappy

i'm leaning towards a jetting/carb issue.

or it could be a bottom end or mid pipe, not giving it any over-rev on the upper rpms. i have a custom made lrd non-adjustable pipe i bought from on of the ballance boys, and it acts like that. reguardless of what i havw done to the carb, jets or reeds.

ive been running av gas in several differnet two strokes for over 5 years now... its been great to me... my buddy has an R and he has been running av gas in it for even longer... his pops runs it in his raptor and his sand rail... its been good to all of us... never had any problems, and it stays good for a lot longer than pump

I'm running 210 psi of compression, and a sparks TT pipe. So it shouldn't be the pipe causing it, and i obviously have plenty of compression.

if you kick over at 210 you should b running race gas anyway, or av gas
