Raptor VIN #??

SO i pick up a wheelr dealer jus to poke around like i always do and i see a 03 raptor for 2700 and it looks sweet..so i figure chit ill go check it out for that price....so im lookin at it and the plastics have been painted and the frame too (looks like crap)....so i said whats the deal is this thing stolen?why paint a pretty much new machine blah blah...so then im lookin for a VIN and the only place we could find was on the left side next to the shifter and its "worn"/sanded off...but theres gotta be another place with numbers on it no??...the dude swears its legit but hes sellin it so cheap cuz hes got no #s

depending on the year.i they also had them on the rear frame work under the seat soe=me where,this is according to the cop that ran my buddies raptor to see if it was registered..but if the numbers have been ground off i would run from it
