Hi All

I have bought the Mrs a 250r and was told it was an '86. I needs a rebore and piston.

The VIN plate has been removed probably when the frame was powder coated.

I can find TB06E by the kicker but the riveted plate only shows five digits (016380)

The conrod has HA2 3 on the side of it.

There is a 1 1/4 inch cut out in the top front engine mount (on the engine casing)

Any ideas as to what year this is?

That cut out measures out to be 86 cases. The 88/89 that cut out was real wide.
Dont know about the rod number, but, if you look in the cylinder on the intake side in front of the reed, if it has a round like hole that is a 85/86 model cylinder.
The 87/88/89 model cylinders will have two bridges in the middle of the intake, three long slots
While your looking in there, see if the piston has a round arch in the middle, if it does, thats a 85/86 model piston.
The 87/88/89 model piston has a full skirt on the intake side & only a squaire hole or window on the intake side
Now if there is a thin aluminum plate between the cylinder & crankcase & the piston looks like a 85/86 model, that could mean it has a long rod crank, which is a 87/88/89 model crank.
That also could mean it could have a short rod stroker crank as well, but more than likely if it did the guy you bought it from would be bragging about it. Its hard not to brag when you have a stroker.

The HA2 means you have a 87-89 crank or long rod

neil is correct on all counts. :) i'd also like to add that IF the sleeve hasnt been replaced that a two digit number(year) will be stamped edge corner of the sleeve.

i forget............. what numbers are on the short rod cranks?
