good deal man i just traded my 400 for a mx 310 R and will never ever go back i love this thing...they are awseome for racing and you should buy a R ready to race you can find a awseome one for 3200....

I wouldn't go as far as to say you could get an "awsome" R for 3200, unless you got a really good deal. But for 3200 you can get a really good one that has a good bit of mods on it that is almost race ready. The 250r's are still have the best geometry frames, even after 15-20 years. It will take a little getting used how a 2 stroke runs, and they are harder to ride, but they will keep right up with the 450's. If you want to build an R from the frame up, it will take more money, and you should spend atleast 4500 dollars on parts, and have most of them be aftermarket. But then you have something race ready.

i have had alot of 2 stroke dirts bikes so i no some about them. i think all but one. practice all over the summer maybe race. maybeee. then all break it all down and and redo all the paint new motor parts. then race it in the spring. so now.. wat should i look for when getting an r. any years i should stay away from??

some say to stay away from 86/87 if you are mx racing, but a 86/87 is easily modded to be similar to a 88/89. be very carefull and look for cracks in the frame, tell the seller you want to plastics off the bike and then put the bike up on the rear wheels and look for a bent frame, cracked motor mounts and rock it to see how good the swingarm and axle carrier bearings are. Common cracking points are the steering stem holder, foot peg areas, front motor mounts and bottom motor mounts, the sub frames tend to crack in the back near the grab bar and where its welded to the frame. Be very suspisous if the seller doesn't want to take off the plastics as plastics can hide frame faults and insist the the motor is stone cold and he didn't warm it up prior to showing you it. While the bike is stood up, shake the front wheesl and check the hub bearings, move the a-arms around and see if they hae worn bearings too. I know this sounds like common sense to alot, but some fall for a bike that looks and rides good. I know I fell for a bike that needed work, but was very cleverly disguested by the seller and if I looked hard I would have seen some of them, namely carrier, swingarm bearings and front hub bearings.

I wouldn't worry about bearing, breaks, seat cover rips, or tires being worn. keep in mind that the better all this stuff is the less you have to put into it, but the key is frame and engine and to an extent plastic because it's expensive to replace.

do a search on hear to see where all the common places they crack. Make sure it starts in 1 - 3 kicks and shifts smooth through all the gears. Check for oil leaks, cracks in the swingarm and make sure the shocks are good,

I personally would never buy anything but stock because I don't want a beat on Mxer stripped of all the lighting and tether cord

But if you are going to race, buy one that is modded but well taken care of, ask lots of questions especially how long they've owned it, any history of the quad, what kind of racing etc when the last top end was done. Ever been rebuilt ask to see receipts if they talk about large amounts of motor work.

Did you see the one for sale right here, a 330 Trinity. No price though, & said he would trade for a street bike.

hahahaha, I have no idea, I dont like it, but it doesnt bother me too bad. I had more important things to spend my money on when I got it (service shocks, motor, ect..). I will get new ones sometime this summer.....

I just started riding quads, I tried 4 stroke but I prefer 2 stroke, and 250R's are insane. I got mine for $1,700.00. I consider it was a good deal. I live in El Salvador, here its hard to fing 250's in good condition because almost everyone raced them. Mine is almost stock, its 86.it came with fatty pipe, paul turner silencer, almost new tires, it had 89 graphics, I did the 88 ones, added a uni filter, v force reeds and a ESR flange, painted the rims, changed the stock handlebar. the chassis has soldering done. Im planing to get one later, and to change the clutch and cilinder.

You can get a pretty nice R or a really good trade for your Z depending on it's shape.

Just to give you an idea of what you can get, I traded an '03 400EX in good condition with the basic engine mods and an '00 LT160 that needed a new front sprocket for mine. I think that the difference between the Z400 and 400EX would make up for the extra quad, so you could probably get one in the same shape as mine.

Technically it cost me 8k, but not really because I could really only have gotten about 5k from the both of them, and I think this R is worth way more than that. It's like brand new; way cleaner than it looks in the pics. The only thing that was wrong with it was that the paint was wearing off just a little bit on the frame by your feet from boots rubbing on it. That's it. The plastic is brand new, it has brand new A-Arms, newly painted frame (besides the scuffing) and it hadn't been bored EVER when I got it. The motor hadn't even been opened. It also has new bearings now. When people see it and I tell them what year it is they can't believe it, they are amazed!
