Hello,
Im a dirtbike rider. But i like fourwheelers for the sand. A friend recently wrecked a 02 400 ex. I think i can get it for bout a grand-1500. It needs work. frame, and everything is rusty. It has a jet kit and powerbomb pipe + fmf silencer. The steering stem is bent, the bike on the top of 5 gear will down shift, the shift shaft is messed up, it needs a new battery and battery holder. I can get powder coating done for cost of the paint. If i go though this summer, powdercoat everything and get this running right is it worth my time and money?
any opinions would be great. It runs good but has been beat pretty hard.

sounds like a good deal, but if I were you and had the money I would save the money to fix it and buy a 450. I personally love mine and think that 400 at that price though is a really good deal even as beat as it is. I say go for it. Do you have pics?

Okey heres the deal,
02 400 ex, I talked the guy down to 500 bucks. It runs good but has bottom end problems. It shifts form fourth to fith and back to fouth. BUT 500 bucks, you can hardly beat that right?

For 500 i would do it, send the motor to the shop and tell them do whatever it needs and see how much leftover you have to work with. frames are cheap, stems are ify on reparing, batteries and box about $75 all in all. and of coures new baerings and all, so i say go for it.

thats what im thinking. If i dont get it goen i could allways part it out for more than 500 bucks.
thanx for the replies

Ill keep that in mind.
I keep finding bottem end parts for pretty cheap, is it a bad idea to buy them before i tear into the bottom end?

If you're buying things that aren't needed you're wasting money:p If you know the parts are needed and it's a good price, maybe... I'm leary about buying used tranny parts, but that's me:ermm:

Thats true, its hard to tell the reason their selln the used parts. I guess bikes usually dont get striped and sold unless there blown.
