Here is an 06' YFZ 450 I did on Sat. This was all Stock except the Baffle was out and Dyno Tires. The Mods were:

Rossier Full Exhaust
TwinAir Filter with Airbox lid Off
Dyno Tires

Jetting is: (at 300ft elevation)

YZ needle in the 3rd from top
K158 main
2 turns out on the mixture screw

**This test was done on the Same Day. It actually was 1.5hrs between the Stock Run and the Full Dialed in Run**

I like to start jetting with the Pipe Builders recommendation to see how close they are. I did here and they were real close, the only thing I had to change is the needle from the 4th to the 3rd. The main and Mixture screw were on.

Remember this is with the Baffle out. I have seen 39hp with the baffle in on the 06'. I did not do an A/F on the Stock runs..

only three hp gain?

bullet3z
06-06-2006, 01:53 PM
So with the above mods, Rossier Full Exhaust, TwinAir Filter with Airbox lid Off and jetted. The quad only made 3 hp over the stock jetting and the baffle out of the exhaust?

Have you dyno'ed the Nmotion shorty pipe? The 9 inch can?

Mobile Dyno

Yes, it has more Noise than HP. Honestly. It does not produce geat power

This is why I post info like this, to help people. This jetting is what most people should be running from sea level-2500ft above. Alot of thing will cause the jetting to be different. Where do you live? Ask and I will help. Sorry for the late reply...

I have done YFZ's and TRX's with the Curtis Sparks. I have Not done a CS test on the different pipe he has. But the ones I have done have put down good power. Great low end pipe.

I got close Max HP #'s but lost 2-3hp on the bottom-mid. For a mx'er that is alot of power loss and that is what that pip is made for. I will look for the graphs if I can get the time and post them...

4 strokes are harder to get HP out of...i seen some dynos that were less gains then that

i agree honda86, i remember my two stroke trx250r.... still to this day it'll beat a stock yfz450 four stroke with a curtis pipe, and cam mod and my two stroke is only 249cc with the CR barrel and mild porting, with the curtis stadium pipe.... lol.. two strokes are easier to get the horespower, but in some cases a little harder to keep running in tip top.... from my experience the four strokes are a lot more expensive to rebuild...

So you must believe what they say? I have tested that pipe to and didn't see 4hp gain.

What would you like to see in the test? Just HP#'s. If so, I will try and get some graphs together from what I already have.

I do, I have the Only DRG head done to a 400ex. I must have forgotten to change my sig. Thanks for pointing that out.

i want to see a test where the 06 yfz is tested against the raptor 660 preferably the 2005 or 2004. Thanks for the time you put in to get honest results

No big deal, Im late too. Im at about 500-800ft. I have a Sparks adaptor and filter(foam), EHS lid and the Rossier. Im at a 165M 48pilot 3rd clip on NCVQ 2 turns out and a 35 leak.

Thanx M.D., your educating the general public on whats what in the real world. Ive had guys try to tell me that a Raptor is 50hp at the wheels stock and Ive tried to tell em that thier about 10 off! Mines 54.9 and its pretty healthy on the mods(internals too).

ANY NEW TEST M>D>?

yfz450rida
12-28-2006, 11:32 AM
my 05 with 06 internals walks away from a piped 700r raptor with air filter and programmer in a 300ft drag in sand with same tires both set up professionally. and my yfz pulls anywhere from 4-6 quad lengths. the truth is yfz are faster than a 700r the onkly time i saw a yfz get beat was twice stock yfz agaist modded 700r and stock yfz against modded 700r with 70lbs kid on it this was all done in the dunes. forget about yfz vs 700r you cant campare them the copmpletely different

MXin700R
12-29-2006, 12:25 AM
Correct on them being different, completely.....I wouldnt say that. The YFZ is a revvin machine and the 700R is all torque(comparitively speaking). Once you learn the shift points of the 700Rs powerband its a leathal dragger, Yamaha even says that in a straight line the 700R is the fastest quad they sell closely followed by the YFZ. You shift at 9000rpm and I shift at 6-6500 rpm. Ive ran against 700s and 450s and outran em both, none more so than the 700s. Once I show them how to shift it its alot better race from then on out with em. I see the same problem on the raptor site, "450" outran me" threads pop up sometimes and me and some of the others that have figured out the shift points explain to the that your not going to win by revvin the piss out the motor. Torque will win, just gotta now how to use it.

yfz450rida
12-30-2006, 09:51 PM
i dont argee but not everyone will the rapton will probaly have 23 mph over a yfz but it will not get there nearly as fast but don't get me wrong the new raptors are a huge step from the old one and they do like to be reved a litlle higher than 6500 look around at dynos they peak higher than that

MXin700R
01-01-2007, 04:02 AM
All the dyno pulls Ive seen, including mine, peak at 6000rpm or very close to that. At 6500rpm its done, including mine lol:

Heres what I was talkin about on torquey vs. revvin on how were your shift points would be(700R vs. LTR).

MXin700R
01-01-2007, 04:05 AM
Heres another one that peaks at 6000rpm or close to it(the HP and torque always cross at 5252rpm so although this is in MPH you get what Im sayin), this is a bone stock 700R with the stock knobbies:

MXin700R

Yes it is, its RPM intolerant lol. Even aftermarket cams start to sputter out at 7000-7500 in these things.

yfz450rida

my buddys got one they seem pretty good for thier rmp limit when i rode it it really didn't feel like it shut down so early they new 700 it alot better than the 660. I cant beleive they fall off that soon.

SandShark400
01-05-2007, 08:31 PM
the yfz might be faster, but it is way more of a handful in the shop, than the 700 is.
