Raptor shock on a 300EX

I need to know does the raptors rear shock really bolt right on to the 300ex. or is it all BS. Has anybody actually done it.

yes it can be done, if you want a pic seach the forums. u can only put a 2001 shock on it.

Yes, we have done it quite a few times! The shock will need to be resprung for your weight and sometimes there is a weld that needs to be filed down on the upper frame mount. I can't seem to find the pics I took of the last one. It is on an old post somewere around here.

This is with the 400ex spring on it. If you are under 200lbs then put the 400ex spring on it. If your over 200 lbs then just use the raptor shock.

Is that a Raptor back shock or is it a raptor front shock that you r puting on the back of a 300ex. I want to do this but am not sure what shock that actually is.

2001 Raptor rear shock, the 2002 wont fit because it has a piggyback rezzie? I think thats why.

Hey guys for some reason I was under the impression that you could put a front shock from a banshee or a Raptor on the rear of a 300ex?? Does anybody know if this is possible??

Ive seen banshee front shocks on the backs of 250EX's. Maybe thats where you got the idea.

std swingarm under 200lbs 400ex spring but with a +2 arm do you respring being 170lbs

What if +4 swingarm an weigh 250+ pounds? Would the stock Raptor shock work? I now have the stock 300EX shock it works alright for trail riding but I need a stiffer shock for more aggressive riding. THANKS

guys, this is not some pre designed kit that you just bolt up, it takes a little test and tune to figure it out. the baseline for test is stock length swingarm + 200 lb. rider (or less) = 400ex spring on raptor shock. the simple rules for revalving/shimming/spring still apply for different length swingarms and rider wieght

what kind of advantage do you get for putting the raptor shock on?

The Raptor has a much better shock that is fully adjustable and rebuildable, like a 400ex shock. The shock that comes on the 300ex is a very basic in shock design, they fail when pushed real hard and can't be rebuilt. You will also get more travel out of the Raptor shock.

hmm well im bout 140lbs.. and i can't seem to bottom my 300ex shock..

im a 125lbs. and i can't bottom my shock either. can you use a 300ex spring on raptor shock or just use 400ex spring and shock.

Where is the best place to get a Raptor rear shock? Can i simply buy one from some place, or do I actually need to find a used one from someone with an 01' who reaplced it??

Yes, that is correct. It must be off an 01 Raptor!

You could buy a new one from a Yamaha dealer or find one used off of ebay or bluetraxx.

LOL how do you manage hitting your knees on the 400ex ? My dads 400, which i normally ride. Has the fenders partially shaved ( its hard to explain). I dont seem to hit my knees ??? Very strange. :huh

i wa thinking this to i have a quadstar rear shock with a rezzie i am getting a new front end with elkas in hopefully a couple months...
should i keep my rear quadstar or sell it with the fronts and put a raptor shock with a 400 spring on there

i do not like my 400ex shocks at all it kills me on the trails matter of fact in mich (it was awesome 90miles or trail in one day and we had more to go!) but i was flippping over all the time up theere cause of the off camber hills up there so i rode my dirtbike up there most of the time......and i dont know if i need aftermarkets or not.......

Can I swap the spring myself? Do I need special tools to do it? I should have my craptor shock in about a week. I got one from a guy at ATVconnection, he took it off before the first ride to put custom axis all around, the shock hasnt even been used yet. I cant wait to get it.
