Okay, heres the deal. I'm getting a job over the summer and I either want to buy a dirt bike (Yz125) or trick out my 300ex (suspension, motor and body). I ride mainly trails and sometimes in the pits. Not anything big. I'm 16 right now. I'm confused on what to buy. I don't want to buy a bigger quad or anything because next year I'm joining the Army Reserves and my summer is going to be gone due to boot camp when I turn 17. So theres no point in buying and dumping a lot of money into something I would only ride for a year or so. You know what I mean? I want something faster and something that is worth dumping money into and making it nice.
What do you guys think?

I would def get the YZ. It would be something new and a 300ex would not be worth all the $$$ it would need. IMO

there is nothing wrong with them. They are a great starter quad to get kids into racing and they can be extreamly nice for a small amount of money. I would just say keep the 300ex how it is and save the money you are going to be making.

The thing is that I'm joining the Reserves so next summer is going to be gone. Then I'm going to finish my senior year and when I graduate I'm joining the army for about four years. So I won't be back for quite a while.

I was in the same exact situation as you last summer. I got a job, couldn't decide if I wanted to dump money to make my Lakota race ready or buy a YZ125. My parents gave me the idea of putting a downpayment on a brand new YZ125, and make payments with my own money. Ended up getting a YFZ450 and probably the best decision i ever made.

what bad things did you hear?

I heard that the motors are a little weak compared to the other bikes, but its the lightest and handles the best.

The heard the motor isn't to strong. My friend has a Rm125 and his cylnder froze and a bunch of other things also. Are all Rm125s like that? How reliable are they? What about Kx125? Are they nice strong reliable bikes?
Thanks

A YZ125 would be your best bet. Yamaha's dirtbikes are spectacular. I owned many dirtbikes. Depending on your height & weight, riding habits, you may want to shine some light on the YZ250.

The KX's are okay. Some are a pain, some not.
Suzukis... eh, never heard much about them...

Thanks for the infomation.:macho I do not have enough experence on dirtbikes to ride a 250. I rather not kill myself. Lol. I think 125cc is enough power for rght now. Anywho for my body type, I'm 5' 10" and 180 pounds.

Bump for more opinions.:macho

save your money...if it looks like you won't really be riding much in the next few years, put that money in the bank and use it towards a much bigger and better quad 5 or 6 years down the road when you can ride more...

do you have a car? that should be your main priority in my opinion
