Kawasaki just sent me some sneak peak photos of the new Kawasaki KFX450, which has an impressive list of features.

Kawasaki KFX450 Press Release Link (http://www.atvriders.com/atvnews/kawasakikfx450sportatv.html)

It appears to have fully adjustable front shocks with Reservoirs along with easily removable headlights to go with the list of features supplied by Kawasaki.

The KFX450 has an Aluminum Frame, Electronic Fuel Injection, Electric Start, and Reverse, which sounds to me like the perfect Cross Country Race ATV. I may be speculating a little too much, but Kawasaki experimented with XC several years ago with William Yokley on a Hybrid machine equipped with a KX250 engine, and I feel this machine will be targeted at the XC Market as well.

It would be great to have Kawasaki back with a GNCC ATV Support Rig in 2007.

Id love to see them bring out a KX 250 version aswell :) to see how a up to date 2 stroke would fair against the new 450's.

It looks like you can just unbolt the front fenders for race cut, that is cool along with the stand out points.

All you Honda and Yamaha die hard fans out there dont give up hope. Yes this is going to be a freakin sweet quad. But I would be willing to bet you a shiney pennie that the 450r and YFZ will follow suit and at least have EFI. 2007 is going to be a historic year for atvs and dirtbikes as well. Im going to wait and see what all the 07 quads look like before I go making any decisions.

Edit:
well i just saw the thread about the 07 450rs, and it looks like they arent changed, so I guess i need to insert my foot into my mouth haha. looks like i wont be riding red in 07.

It will probably look alright if you unbolt the black part.

Just because it is aluminum doesn't mean it is going to be much lighter, It may be slightly but not much. It take thicker aluminum tubing to make the same strength as thinner steel. You can find the tensil strength/material conversions all over the net. Most compare something like 4130 cromoly vs aluminum vs titanium. I am not saying it won't be lighter than what is currently available, I am just saying don't expect huge huge savings.

Has anyone noticed the horrible chain angle yet. Looks like a wheelie machine:( Also it looks like it may have a rear link similar to the YFZ judging by the angle of the rear shock being so upright. It looks like it has the same front shocks as the KFX so no long travel and throw away shocks as usual:mad:

An alloy frame only saves 7-8 lbs. Good amount but add in reverse, electric crapper, and the usual 1/2 heel guards and 1/2 real fenders and it all adds up.

One more --- look at those cheese dic# front bumper mounts. Modern front bumpers are bend-o-matics but those bumper mounts WILL bend before the bumper mount posts do.

Jesus, sammy5x, take a pill. You've saw 2 close up pics of a prototype and your already complaining. Wait until it comes out and you've rode one.

You need to chill out, stop bashing the thing, mabye it's not made for you, but some people woluld really like reverse on a motocross quad. thankyou

That is wonderful no reverse has kept me from buying all the 450's so far.

06-07-2006, 05:42 AM
even if does have the kfx 400 shocks its probably going to be aimed at XC racers with the reverse and all and you dont need long travel in XC.

if they really wanted to save weight they should take that 450 motor out and put a KX250 motor in :D i would defintley buy a kx250 quad there 250 engines are sweet.

Good lord, there are'nt anyone happy with anything anymore. Sammy, if they were building the KFX 450 for you and you alone i can see your complaints but face facts....it's being built for the general market. Let them get the damm thing out so we can get a GOOD look at it before we start knocking it, sheesh. What you need to do is go to Corporate Kawasaki and tell them how and what to build and when you get back, let me know how it went o.k.?

Sammy is just a HOOOOMOOOOOOOO. I'm glad there is another 450. It just makes all the other companies' 450's step up the innovation on there own machines. Competition is good for us all;)

Thank you Atkins. Flame on little men but if it wasn't for people like me (and I am by far not the only one) holding the manufactures to CONSISTANTLY higher levels we would NOT be where we are in this industry. We have to constantly DEMAND higher levels of consumer input. If we don't then the manufactures will only give us product that they think we want (remember the mid-nineties? ), not what the current educated and more experienced rider wants and NEEDS. Am I glad there is another 450, of course I am! This time is so exciting to be in the ATV industry but it is not enough anymore for them to give us product that is "close enough", or "a good platform to start with". You guys make it seem like all I pointed out was bad points but read between the lines and you will see different answers. Let the games begin---

Not all of us are stuck in the glory days of riding around in the c-class riding inferior equipment ('cause we simply didn't know about better product) Inside joke people relax:rolleyes: By the way I ordered your stuff today. Are we doing any riding this weekend or is the SHTP flooded out? If not let's go to Foxwoods.

It's no wonder you had some replys that you've read.;)

Every one is entitled to opinions, but maybe they can be worded a little bit more suttle.

If this upsets you, My apologys!:(

just jumping in here but the reverse and electric start sounds great to me....but i am an xc kind of guy.....plus i like electrick starts b-cuz i have seen guys roll a bike and sat their and kicked a hot 4-stroke for what seemed like forever just to get it started.....i would rather just push a button.....

Well, I personally don't really care about the minor issues. Those things get changed out over time anyway. When is the last time you saw anyone COMPETETIVE on a STOCKER. (yes, I know, there are racers that CAN be fast on the stock stuff, but that isn't the point) Most guys that are out racing on stockers are not that serious into it, or don't have the BANK to upgrade. Even with the best stock setups, guys STILL buy aftermarket parts/accessories to compliment and fine tune to THEIR riding styles. In this world, opinions are like ARSEHOLES... everybody's got one....and this is mine.

I would love to get a new one to match my nearly 20yr old Mean Green. Too bad they aren't gonna call it a Tecate4.

This is amazing! Kawasaki has come up with the most original design in ATV history.

A 450 sport quad that has a layout much like a semi-tractor but with the engine in the trailer section. the loooonnnggg wheelbase will no doubt give it a class leading smooth ride but word is that it pushes SOOO bad in the corners that it jack-knifes! [as illustrated in the spy photo]

To solve this problem, Kawasaki installed reverse on the 'Tecate-45' and recommends riders use that gear exclusively.

Reports out of Japan say Jeff Ward and Marty Hart will pilot the new quad in the GNCC 'Limo' class for production quads with wheelbases in excess of 85 inches.

Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
