On the eng side, been using Honda's HP4-M (w/Moly), w/no probs. On trans side, HP4 (no moly)
Im looking forward to the rest of this thread....The subject of oil seems to vary wildy on this forum.

I have ran moble1 red cap 20w50 (dont make any more)
honda with moly 10w40
now running amsoil 20w50 motorcycle
next change will be amsoil 10w40 motorcycle

the manual states to run 10w40 for all weather or 20w50 if it dont get cold out.

im going to stick with 10w40 if the shop can keep it in stock.

this chart is not out of the honda manual look at you manual to make sure its right

The crankcase/engine are the same thing. That being said,I use the same thing that coolidge is using.

I'm guessing when you say crankcase you actually mean transmission. I use the Honda gear oil that comes in the red bottle.

Yeah i got a lil ahead of myself lol.

So you use the transmission oil in that red bottle that says 2 stroke transmission oil ? I haven't changed mine yet, but i am going to do so before i ride again, and i was just curious cause in the book it almost seems as if you can run 10w-40 on both sides. But i am not sure. also after about 15 hours i think i am going to switch to the honda synthetic in the gold bottle. Also how often does everyone change there oil on both sides.

Yes, you can run 10w-40 on both sides, or the Honda trans oil.
I have been using the synthetic w/moly (HP4M) on eng side, and regular HP4 on trans side (dont use the Moly on trans side), and have had NO problems. I usually change after every 'hard' weekend, or after a coupla-three day rides. Me thinks thats cheap ins.

i just run gn4 10w40 honda oil in both sides. i buy it by the case from my dealer. the parts guy there gives me a great deal. but i change it every two hours in both sides and change the filter every 4 hours. i've never had any problem in any machine i've ever owned because of what oil i used. the main thing is that is has oil in it, the next thing is just to change it on a regular basis.

dont use normal engine oil in your tranny side, use the tranny version, or you might get clutch slip from the friction modifiers in the engine oil
