I was at my local Suzuki dealship today and was told there is a recall on the LTR. For those of us who bought the first ltrs Suzuki is doing a recall on the rear linkage. I was told if the likage is cracked Suzuki will replace the frame. If the linkage is not cracked the shop will weld up where it is not welded. This happend to me when I bought my Z400, the frame cracked at the shock mount and Suzuki put a new frame in it. Call your dealer today.

Is this for real? Mine is in the shop as we speak with battery issues.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind on batter issues are you having with your ltr? Thanks, Nick.

The piece of crap sheet metal screw that holds the lid on pulled out during a race, and it ripped the leads off the battery an smashed the battery.

I am not real happy with the starting of the LTR anyway. It is slow, which kills me on dead engine starts. Maybe a new battery will help. Otherwise I am thinking of going kick when they come out for us amateurs

If you read the bulletin it takes approximately 2.5 hours. The only way to get it done in 30 minutes like you're asking is if you already have it all disassembled and all the dealer needs to do is weld on both sides.

It's free, make them do it. If you do it you'll void your rights to a claim if it still fails.

Make sure you unhook all of the electrical if you do.

It's common knowlege in the auto industry that welders can fry ECU's. I know a few body guys, and they watch the rookies do it every day.

Don't let it happen to you.

i called corparate suzuki and my lt was a couple hundred units past where they started fixing them. that saved me some down time. whoever has a lt i would call them or your dealer and see where yours falls in at and have it fixed.

I received a call today from the dealership where I bought my lt-r.
They wanted me to bring the bike back to them asap to either weld it or replace the frame. They made it sound like it might take them longer than 2.5 hours, but they did say that they wanted to make sure not to inconvience me and keep me off the bike for to long. Replacing a frame would have to take longer than just 2.5 hours...but bravo suzuki for taking the initiative to remedy the problem. Maybe they could shave off about 40 pounds at the same time.......

From what I remember reading ... the 2.5 hours was for the weld fix.

Does anybody know for sure what vin# the fix started ????

Wonder why they are replacing some a-arms ??????

Your dealer doesnt' know what he's talking about. It's a safety recall. They absolutely have to fix it with no questions asked.

Exactly, it's not a warranty issue. It is a saftey recall placed inaccordance to the Consumer Product Saftey Act. In other words they have no choice but to fix it.

If you've cracked, or damaged the frame in a seperate location, then they don't have to fix that, they only have to weld the tabs on the linkage mount if it hasn't failed yet. If the mount has failed, they have to replace the entire frame.

If they do replace your frame, I'd go back over the whole thing with a fine tooth comb, to make sure they tightened all the bolts, etc. properly. They aren't going to put as much care into reassembly as you would. That and they are only human, they are bound to miss at least 1 thing.

Like he said, I would go over it well. Remove the swingarm pivot and grease, check all bolts for tightness, check wiring and fuses for binding, grease all zerks.

Warranty work is great, but I hate to let anyone work on my baby.
