I have a 400ex and the cluch plates are done. I needs some new ones but I'm not sure which one I should buy? I know the tusk are cheap but are they any good? I can't afford a hinson or sparks 8 plate set up. I have heard you could run like 8 250r fibers and 7 300ex steels? Does any one know anymore about this? Thanks

barnetts prices usually run about the same as the hinson and he cant afford that. but yeah those barnets are awesome.

well dont worry about your basket unless thats bad...if all you need is the plates and fibers then get the barnett

The stiffer springs change absolutely nothing in the way the quad shifts. They only chance the amount of pull required to disengage the clutch. They will also hold more horsepower as they keep the fibers and plates stuck together harder. Barnetts are AWESOME, but very pricey. OEM is also another excellent choice. If your looking for cheap and good, I tried a tusk clutch kit and was rather suprised at how well it held up. I used it an entire race season on my modded EX, and it was still going strong the day I sold it. All for about $30

i have never used a barnet clutch but i have been told they were junk by various people. i have talked to a few people who toasted the tusk clutches quick and i have talked to some who loved them, especially for the price. i would get the 8 plate sparks or gt thunder setup if it was me. most agree the stock clutches are better than the aftermarket ones. the sparks and gt thunder setup both use the honda parts from what i read....

How many years has this clutch lasted you? If it has lasted a while you might be ok with a OEM one. I am not sure how much a OEM costs, If not I would just go with a medium priced item.

I fried my stock plates pretty fast, i now have barnett plates and springs, they are 4 years old and work awesome. Buy the Barnetts. I have also heard mixed things about the tusk clutches.

ive looked around and people have said barnetts only last for 6 months and the ears arent perfect so they can break the basket and they get hot and burn up. is any of that true? my bike has alot of power and i need a good clutch...especially when i run 1 1/2 inch snowmobile studs in my tires sometimes

the cluch in it now is the first one I belive and the quad is an 2002. It sounds like puting a stock one back in is the way to go. Has anyone heard of puting 7 300ex steel and 250r fibers in. Just wondering it sounds interesting if it works. Thanks guys

i had my stock clutch in my 89 R till last summer...

it wasnt slipping or anything, but i was about to put my 265 kit on and figured if it wasnt going it would... my basket was chewed up pretty good, but it still functioned fine...

i threw in a hinson basket with a barnett clutch...

the cltuch does affect your bike- it affects how well it grabs.... its not just how hard it is to pull...
