I've never done one, but I bet an air/oil cooled GSXR engine would be a fine choice--no rads to worry about (just an oil cooler). I've seen a couple at the dunes. Even the older GSXR-1100 engines made SERIOUS power. The 750 weren't slouches either. Forget the 600 (not very common and nothing special power-wise). I know a lot of mini-sprint type dirt track cars use that family of engine. Also, the Bandit 1200 is basically the same engine as the GSXR-1100 and I believe they're still in production so parts might be easier to get.

Pretty sure you'll need to be a decent fabricator to put one together yourself. There are no "kits" of any kind that I'm aware of. I've always wanted to do one for sand dragging...

Good luck!

Oh, and FWIW as a long time street bike rider I always found "crotchrocket" to be a somewhat derogatory term.

That doesn't really look all that fast. Could just be the camera but I've seen other vids that were more impressive. Maybe they have the gearing wrong.

They must have the gearing wrong; It looks slow. I bet my R could beat it :D

Also, it needs a muffler. It sounds like garbage.

This is a beast!

GSXR 1300cc HAYABUSA POWERED DS650

175 RWHP with the stock GSXR motor! Think about this with the power command (200hp) plus NOS (300+RWHP)! I quess you must have a small pp for this one or be nuts.

actually wasn't that bad, just cut the frame in half attached the motor to the rear section, made sure the sprokets stayed in line, then added pipe for frame rails and attached the front end back on it. the gas tank has been a ***** to make.

this was actually a bit easier than the 400ex/ yz400f that i built.

the sad part is that if i ever need to take the motor out. i will have to cut the frame in half.:( luckily this motor only has 750 miles on it. i bought a entire wrecked 05 zx10

i'll get some updated pictures, this one is old

OSM, does that thing get good acceleration? And how much money went into that? How many hours of customisation?

The first 10 feet it digs a little too much but after that it gets on top and flies! It really shines on big long hills.
I have 12k in parts in the red quad. Labor I don't even want to think about...probably 120 hours.
