I have a 93 Dodge Dakota. It has a V6, 3.9 liter engine. My muffler went bad so i put on a piece of straight pipe from the cadilac converter to my tail pipe. It has a good sound to it and all, except for the popping and backfiring it does when ever i push in the clutch or let off the gas. What should I do about this? Get a new muffler, probably a glasspack, and take off the cadilac and just put it all glasspack muffler in? Or get my valves adjusted or something which will stop the backfire? Thanks alot....

Get a flowmaster 40 series muffler and get your own pipe bent. With a muffler you won't have an obnoxious sounding vehicle

Go with a flowmaster and you can just replace your cadalidic converter with some straight pipe.

if it has the O2 sensors mounted ahead of the catylic converter take the cat off and jus throw a glass pack or flow master on there. if the O2 sensors are mounted behind it get a high flow catylic converter and go from there. also i'd recomend a set of headers.

there is a muffler out there for about 35$. I think it's essentially the same as a flowmaster 40 i just can't remember the name. Its like IMCO or something.

:p i had the same problem with my 95 dak with the 3.9. had no cat and two heartthrob glasspack muffler tips mounted to duals out the back. popped and backfired like a sonofa*****. if i were to do it again, i would run a muffler that doesnt use a fiberglass packing. anything like a glasspack is going to pop and crackle with that motor. something like a flowmaster would work great.

imco single chamber muffler 40 bucks, flowmaster 40 is 2 chambers. the imco is gonna be loud and keep back pressure, straight pipes will lose power on a stock engine. if i were u id just save up and buy a borla muffler and dump it

Yea, I have to agree about the flows on a 3.9. Its hard to make a 3.9 sound good man. I heard a cammed 3.9 and it sounded pretty mean for a v6 at idle. http://www.dakota-durango.cohttp://www.exriders.com/vbb/newreply.php?s=&action=newreply&threadid=234746m/videos3.php Go there and look for slow97 dakotas V6 cam video.

i totally agree. Imco's are really not that loud. ugottabayou has imco's and they just about have the tone down but they just aren't quite loud enough.

listen, disreguard everything people are telling you

Spintech is the way to go. I have a spintech prostreet on my v-6 that sets off car alarms and sounds very deep, not like a v6 at all

Get the spintech, you will be praising me in the end

if you want it to really sound good, running larger diameter pipe from the cats back will also give you a deeper sound, and with a single stage muffler, it should eliminate the popping.

just run a 3"pipe from the heads into a high flow cat and put a single stage muffler (any brand of performance muffler, they're all basically the same) on their and it'll sound good.

well considering its a dodge, you might want to check the air pressure in the tires or something:D j/k man, but the straight pipe might have something to do with it, engine light come on?

The truck I really wanted to get was a chevy s10 because i love them things but im getting this dodge for free so i wont have to sell my quad or anything, but i dont know what to all put on it.
