change your oil lately? or even fill?

400ex's are known for "blow by".

If its smoking when your riding then your going to need a new piston and rings, unless you tear it apart and realize you can get by with a good hone job. If the oil is blue then you need a rebuild, if its black smoke then your jetted way to rich.

Yep.

Smoke blue I assume? Well, most likely the rings could be worn, or the bore has scores/uneven wear, High RPM, quick accel. smoking is blowby.
