I just sold my 400 motor on ebay for a grand .woot .. woot.

Now Im stuck. yz 426 or crf

first instinct is crf, hands doun fast. good. brap. nice

But I know of a yz motor that is all set up for a quad, wet sump kit, kick start extendor, electrical. for 2k + I would need probly 200$ worth of misc parts.

cheepiest crf motor is like 2k and it doesent come with anything, so it would need another 800 easy to be quad ready

Either motor I can instal No problems.

But how much slower exactly is a yz motor than a TRX450r. My budie has a 06 R with slip on exaust. Thats the power output Im going for.

and how easily is the yz motor modded. if I wanted to make it faster doun the road, does it take welll to mods? thanks.

The YZ450 dirt bike engine has more power than the quad engine does, so i think it will be just as fast or faster, i'm starting to build myself a 400ex/YZ400F Hybrid, i'm going with a YZ400F engine because it has about 42 hp and the TRX450R engine has like 38hp both rated at rear wheel power. I found this information online.

based on what i've been reading in the forums and stuff, there was someone on here who had used all the yz engines and a couple crf engines and said he thought the yz426 was the best motor he used and went back to it more than once

i havent had the pleasure of testing any of these motors out thought "sigh"

was the yz400f engine in a quad or dirtbike? the engine would make more power in a dirtbike because there is less friction and not as much stuff turning.

The engine itself produces the same or more hp even at the crankshaft

ok so those numbers r based on crankshaft power?

no thats at rear wheel hp,even at rear wheel hp the bike engine has 4 more hp than the quad, and i dont think a longer axle and 1 more tire will take 4 hp to drive.

I talked to a guy at atvfourplay and he said if I went with the yz engine over a crf I would absolutly hate myself. I found a 450r motor 2004, kick start, diecent price. comes with some stuf. cant be that hard to get that sucer cramed in there. I saw some pictures in the powertrain section of someone that had done it.

My opinion ,
Why do all that work for a 450r motor, the torque and power from a yz or crf is uncanny, you might as well just buy a 450r then, and save yourself time and money. If your gonna do the hybrid go w/the yz or crf.Atvforplay does there conversions, and there awesome.I know they like there crf's but I guess its your own opinion on what ya wanna do.I never had one w/a crf motor but people say its easier to ride, the yz tires you out more thats what I have read in recent topics about this subject.have you tried http://www.jbatvracing.com/go under products and motors he has a crf and a yz ready to go.Good luck again, and I guess well see what ya go with....
