I want to get alittle more power out of my 400ex. i have a stage 1 cam, HMF slipon, uni filter, and jet kit. If i get an 11:1 JE, how much power difference will i notice? Will i still be able to use the stock rod and crank safely? I want more power without sacrificing reliability. i ride xc and drag race

Just me but i would get a new heavy duty rod with a new high comp. piston, and the power increase i felt on my ex is it has a snapper throttle then my dads stock ex. stock 300ex is 9:8:1

The stock rod should be fine. When I added my 10.6:1 406 piston I noticed the motor had more torque throughout the gears. Smaller bores will still be reliable.

The ported & polished things are if you want to for more power. More money too. I would send it to C&D Racing. If this website stands behind there work, you can't go wrong, or just take it to a dealership/motorycycle shop/quad shop. Make sure you have the piston to go by the measurements.

you'll lose a little bit of the snappiness with a port and polish job. mid and upper end should really be nice though......a higher comp. piston would pick up the slack of the port work. higher comp means more heat too so keep that in mind.
