i believe you can tigten or loosen the front by turning them with some kind of tool, not sure what it is
the back can be adjusted by the nitrogen chamber (if 300's have them not sure) or by turning the screw that clicks on the bottom of the shock

you don't say which ones, front or back, so i'll try to cover both. someone else can jump in if they know better.

here's how you do it on a 400ex, so i'm not sure if it totally relays to a 300ex, but here goes...

the front has a ring on the bottom with some detents in it, looks like a set of stairs, so to speak. if you turn the ring to where it rests on the bottom step, then that is the hardest setting and will do the best to keep you from bottoming out, however, this will give a harsher ride.

on the rear, the 300ex may be the same, because i don't know if it has adjustable compression and rebound like the 400, but on the 400, you turn two screws to adjust these settings. the compression you would want as far to the right to be the hardest setting. the rebound, well you just want to play with that. personally, i don't like mine to rebound very fast because it bucks like a horse.

The rear is the same as the front, 5 way preload adjust. Use a big pair of channel locks to turn them up a notch or two. 300ex's don't have compression or rebound adjustments on the front or rear.
