04' Honda 400EX vs. 05' Kawasaki KFX400

This past weekend my buddy and I raced our quads I have a 04' 400EX and he has a 05' KFX400, there both bone stock . Mine has more buttom end I beat him off the start by 3 quads and then he passes me and he keeps ahead by 1 quad and a half. I was wondering how i could beat him . I was wondering about a smaller sprocket in the back but I dont want give away my buttom end lift off. What are some other options ? thanks

filter, cam, exhaust, bore, tires.

You will need more then just a smaller sprocket, a sprocket won't do alot unless you significantly drop teeth in the back end. but you bottom end will suck then. I would get 14:35 gearing, a good full system, air filter, cam, and a piston... you will be neck to neck with him with that... KFX is alot faster stock then 400ex, 400ex is outdated especially with the air cooled... IT SUCKS... BUY A YFZ

Thanks alot for the help ...I'm only 14 and only have had the EX for a month so ...I don't think I need a 450 yet .... o ya I was wondering how u get the info. when write a Thread or Reply that tell the person what quad they have and the parts on it ? thanks

add airfilter and a slip on and re jet and you should be even with him. add a camshaft and a piston and you should pull away by a couple lengths.

it is goin to take alot more than that to get the edge....a kfx runs roughly about 71-73 and a 400ex runs roughly 66-69...and plus my friend has a kfx that woops on 400exs all day at st.joe.

Go to the top of your screen to USER CP (its above the vidoes and gallery buttons on the top of the screen) then EDIT PROFILE when u get to the page after u click on user cp. Then u can set up a signature with your quads and stuff... hope that helped

A 400ex is not going to need a cam, piston, full exhaust, and an air filter just to keep up with a stock kfx 400. I bought my 400ex and all it had an air filter a cdi and it was re-jetted and I could easily hang with stock z400's during drag races. Stock Kfx's aren't fast, don't get me wrong neither are 400ex's but its not like a kfx is way faster than a 400ex is just a little bit faster stock for stock Its hardly even noticable when you ride the two quads one after the other. If this guy got an air filter, a slip on pipe, and re-jetted he would smoke a bone stock kfx hands down.

i have an 06 400ex.. it is jetted, full exhaust, k&n, and a 13t front sprocket and i can kill z400 and kfx 400s all day in a 1/4 mile. go into the trails and i can stomp them even more. i see kfx700 get beat alll the time by 400ex in a 1/4mile. z400 and kfx have higher top speeds, but as far as a 1/4 mile they have no chance. 400exs launch hard with a 13t up front
