What is the stock sprocket count on a 06 400ex?

Also, what is a popular size to buy and where do you buy them?

The stock sprocket on the 400EX is a 38 on the rear and a 15 up front. If you have an aftermarket pipe go up 1 tooth on the front and enjoy a little more top speed.

Wrong.... The rear is right I think, but the 05' and 06' have a 14 tooth front sprocket...

Stock front sprocket on the new models is a 14. Most people actually prefer to go down 1 in the front for more low end power rather than going up one and losing pull just to gain a couple of miles per hour. How often do you run 5th wide open and for how long anyway?

What kind of experience do you guys have with larger rear sprockets. OEM is 39... How would it, or how is it with a 42 tooth sprocket?
Thinking bout putting a 13T primary and 42T secondary with rear tire size Razr2 22.11.9

they say 1 in the front is equivilant to 3 in the rear.fronts are much less expensive.which is prob the main reason ppl swap the fronts out.i have a 14 in mine(down 1 from stock)and i like it.id like to go one more but they say(they being the quad mechanics)you can wear your chain down faster that way.so i think ill opt for a 39 rear which is 1 up from stock on my 03.
with the 13/42, given the tire size you stated, youd prob be 1 up from stock.i think.....

I've got an 05 400, and I couldn't believe the difference when I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket. It felt like a different bike. Plus it takes about 30 seconds to do.

I've heard a lot of good things about sidewinder but they are pretty expensive.

Renthal and JT both make 13T fronts for the 05/06 EX. Rockymountainatv.com has the Renthal and motosport.com has both. If you decide to go up in the rear you need to factor in clearance if you run a swingarm skidplate.

I can't seem to find a place that sells sidewinder other than their website which is really impossible to use. They don't have pictures, prices, or any info on anything they sell.
