How much do you guys pay for car insurance? I'm going to be getting a Eclipse 96-99 GST in a few months. How much would that be a year for insurance? Also does aftermarket parts like engine kits NOS ect. make the insurance rate go up?

It depends on a lot of things...age, driving record, sometimes grades in school. Normally, the insurance on sports cars are higher. But I'm not sure if an Eclipse would be considered a sports car?

No, aftermarket parts do not make the rate increase; as long as you don't tell them. However, you can have those parts covered for an addtional fee.

Unfortunately, you usually don't get a discount on your insurance until you are 21 at most places:( If you live with your parents you may be able to do it as a family package deal. That's the way I did it, and I paid a little under $100 per month for liability on a V8 Silverado.

If you just carry liability and nothing for physical damage on your car the price will be the same whether it is a pinto or a corvette for the most part b/c the ins. co. is not concerned about the expense of repairing your ride. Point is if you want liability only the make won't matter too much.

I moved my deductable up to $1000 last year to make my monthly payments lower. It lowered my payments about $40 a month.

Insurance sucks!

I'm paying over $3000 a year for my '02 Ranger 4x2 V6. I think I'm getting seriously screwed over but no other provider is cheaper. In Cali I was paying a little under 2k and I thought that was insane. Apparently, Arizona has terrible drivers (which I will say is definitely true - no one can drive for sh*t here) so insurance is expensive as hell, and I have a clean record, good grades, etc.

BTW, insurance rates don't usually go down until age 25.

Usually when you're in school, you'll get a Good grades discount. It only works for Honors and High honors though, (Trust me, I'm a honorable mention guy) It takes off like 100 dollars or so. I think the insurance company hates me right now, so I'm staying off the road unless it's important.
