Wife and I went to sand mountain and she was devistated that she could'nt make it up Comp hill. I realize that its just a 250 but there has to be something I can do to give the HP she needs to make it. Any sugestions?

my cousin put a HMF pipe on his and it seemed like it helped then if you want to get serios you could do motor work (hi comp piston cam etc.)

what year is the 250?
the 250 is supose to be an entry level quad, your using it to do advanced hill climbs, which can be done but depends on how much money your looking to spend.
If she is getting too advanced perhaps its time for a step up the ladder to a 400ex ?
If you want to mod the 250 you need to let it breath better,
k/n air filter, full exhaust, jet the carb.
that will let it flow.
after that the next steps would be to bump compression and install a cam and some port work (rejet again)
you can get used 400ex's pretty cheap now days and even after
all the mods I listed the stock 400 will prob. still have more power.
let her ride your quad up the hill so she can say she made it then take her back to the trails lol j/k

the thing is she has ridden my 400 and my newly aquired 450r and they scare the hell out of her. She just wanted to make it to the top. Not to mention she likes the fact of the clutchless shifting. I think with a bit more HP she would be fine. Do you know is the a rev limiter on those, and do you think a rev box would help?

there is a rev limiter (I have heard my kids bouncing off it )
you will need more power to use higher revs.
try dropping the front sprocket one tooth, this will hurt the top speed but give it extra power in each gear.

UNI filter: 30 bucks
T-4 full exhaust: 380 bucks
ditch the airbox lid
use like a 108 main, move the needle one notch down from stock

you can thank me later ;)

summed it up greatly. the first mod to any bike should be the intake. for like 45 bucks you can get a good filter, outerwears, no airbox lid, and rejet. tons more torque and throttle response.

you can go down to a 21 inch tire for more power, but less speed. stock is 22 inch in the rear.

a set of paddle tires will give you as much power as a pipe will.

Start with a K&N or UNI filter, and take off the airbox lid. That will add a little power, but probably not enough to make it up the hill, which leads to a new pipe. I have heard HMF and Pro Circuit T-4 are good. After getting a new pipe, you will want to rejet the carb.

If that still is not enough, you can spend more $ and get into the engine. You can bore and get a higher compression piston (powroll) port the head, and get a new cam from Web Cam. If you get a web cam, it is reccomended you should get hardended rocker arms too.

Big gun makes a rev limiter that is +1200 rpm's I believe. That will help a lot with top speed, but I would atleast get a new airfilter and exhaust pipe before that.

My daughter has no problem with her 250ex. We put paddles on it and the rest is stock. She is also only 110 lbs. she is able to get up the big stuff at Glamis. I try it on her 250ex and it takes allot of finesse. And yes I just can't get her to give up the auto clutch. So I bought a car with a stick so now she has to learn the clutch thing. After she feels comfortable driving a car with a clutch, I think she will enjoy a 400ex.. HONDA ROCKS..:)
