05 vs 06 450 engine noise

I have an 06 450 and my friend just got an 05.I may have about 5 or 6 hours on mine.He may have a little more.I know these engines are a bit noisey but mine sounds louder than his.Does not sound like valve noise.Just the normal clancky 450 but mine is louder.Also he was blessed without the annoying 450 bog that my 06 has.

The 06 has a shorter piston skirt, so what you are hearing is more then likely a touch of piston slap. Dont worry about it, its normal for an 06.

06=short skirt piston+more compression(12:1) if your running less than 91 octaine you may also hear some pinging.
its all normal and a small price to pay for the performance.

my 06 has the annoying valve click to.......at first it annoyed me so bad i took apart the head and made sure the valves werent messed up.......i got the 06 bog too....i thought i made a mistake by getting the trx over the yfz .....w/e honda all the way

glad its not just me i got mine yesterday and went from an 05 400 to the 06 450r and that noise was making me nervous so i took it to the shop this morning and said it was he normal sound but hear that on here also helps

Have both different models. The '06 is noisier than the '04 (same engine as "05). The HRC kit installed and adjusted correctly get rid of the majority of the bog - except for just off idle.

I disagree, the QS is the biggest waste of money around. You can fix FCR bog with leak jet and pilot jets.

I totally agree. Haven't torn into my 450 yet, but have my CRF250X FCR dialed in with a leak jet and pilot.
