It had been 19 years since i had last been to this track. At that time, I was cramped in the front of a pick up with 3 other riders with quads and gear shoved anywhere and way we could just to make it to a quad race:p

I honestly can not remember how much the track had changed, but it looked as fun as I remembered it. This trip though, I wasnt a teenager with the urge to battle in every turn, I was a father watching his son take the next step as he tried his hand at MX racing.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:41 AM
wvspeedfreak and his son made the trip, and this would be Austins first race ever!

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:44 AM
Duponster was there battling to keep his points lead in D7

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:46 AM
Cody's day did not go as well as he would have liked it. The first few practice sessions were riddled with thick muddy sections and battling mud and learning a new track were not what he had expected:p

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:48 AM
He had complained early of his quad feeling like it was not making power, we checked it out and did not find anything so we geussed it was the mud bogging down the mini engine. As the day wore on it became apparent we had an issue.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:51 AM
Even with a hurt engine, he did good. He was the only entry in 90 Mod and was forced to start 30 to 45 seconds behind the 90 Production class each moto, along with Austin in 70 Mod.

Both moto's he worked his way back to the top 5, gaining 5th in Moto 1 after throwing a chain and loosing a position, and garnering a 4th in Moto 2. He wanted badly to start with the rest of the field, but used the oppertunity to do some learning about passing and making up time.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:53 AM
I was all smiles as he worked through a double double section

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:55 AM
The track was worked well by the staff, but alot of riders were complaining it was too fast for a race track, some where hitting 4th and 5th gear in sections.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:56 AM
The race was run very well in my opinion. I had been told D13 races were well managed and I was happy to find that to be true.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 07:59 AM
Prcatice was open to bikes until 1pm, then the track was groomed and watered and a quad only session was held until 3pm

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:02 AM
The layout was pretty much as I remebered, with the addition of doubles and a rythm section the track looked very fun to ride on

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:03 AM
This event also set a record for a D13 race with 114 quad entries

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:04 AM
Duponster heading onto the track for practice

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:06 AM
Cody during practice. He did try and double thru the rythm section, but said power was so inconsistant he did not feel good trying them every lap

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:07 AM
Austin was doing great, and was having a blast riding the track and learning the ropes

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:09 AM
#29 and #55 are track locals, and it showed. They were flying around the track and looked great!

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:10 AM
I havent ripped into Cody's quad yet to see where our problem is, I do know he has bent a few motor mount bolts:eek2:

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:11 AM
As the track came around, the speeds picked up

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:13 AM
The bad part of my day was the dust, wind and not being able to run around the track to get pictures

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:15 AM
With having to remain close to the pits for my son, I did the best I could in the few vantage points I was allowed to get to. The track is VERY strict about who is on the track and for good reason.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:16 AM
Atvmxriders son had an issue with blown shock but raced his heart out gaining points

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:17 AM
It was a noticable difference watching how the kids hit some of the jumps

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:18 AM
The track is actually a great place for youth riders.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:19 AM
The races were finally underway and an afternoon of excitement and pain would follow:p

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:21 AM
3 riders battle hard to get the holeshot as they head through turn 1

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:22 AM
The chase was on

Pappy

jerry helping the tangled riders

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:24 AM
#99 grabbed the holeshot and was steady on the throttle trying to out run the pack

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:26 AM
Passing was tough, and small packs of riders battled in every turn for position

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:28 AM
The first turn is always sketchy, but damn fun to watch and even more fun to ride through:D

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:29 AM
Just gotta love roost

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:31 AM
A class is fun to watch, and there was some good competition there. I had hoped to see my bud paul gregg in action, but he broke his ankle at Danville last weekend. Nonetheless, he was there cheering on friends!

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:32 AM
Another rider I like to watch is Delaware152, here working on catching the leaders

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:33 AM
he put on well hell of a charge to run down the leader

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:35 AM
152 taking the 2nd spot over a big table

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:36 AM
3rd 4th and 5th battle with 1 lap to go

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:38 AM
Youth production was one of the best races I saw all day.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:39 AM
The womans class left on a staggered gate with Youth production

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:40 AM
Watching these 2 riders race was as intense as any race all day

Mobile Dyno
05-21-2006, 08:40 AM
That is Awesome to see Cody getting into MX. Looks like he was having fun. I wonder what was happening with his motor? Let me know if you need my help getting the new motor dialed in and I will bring the dyno up :). I have been tring to get up with Kevin and get to Breezwood to try out my set up but I can't find the time.. I will get up there someday.. We will get together again and have another Dyno Day (if you want to) and do some testing ;) ...Good Job Cody.....

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:42 AM
And anyone who thinks a 300ex can not get it done.....id put money on either one of these riders on a 300ex over 3/4 of the people I know with 450's:p

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:44 AM
The rider on the white 300 made a banzia run and evened things up over the last tabletop, setting up a drag race thru the whoops section.

I was trying to get in position when everyone stood up due to teh action on the track

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:46 AM
matt, we sure could use some help getting it figured out. i know it has to do with carburation...

#8 took the lead and won the moto

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:48 AM
Cody was eager to either run the race or blow up the engine....he just wanted something to happen

That would be C class:D

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:53 AM
C class is the like the epitome for crash pics in the first turn. Full agtes and the first turn are a recipe for good pictures and unfortunatley broken parts and people.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:54 AM
I had planned to keep my camera on #158 Duponster the entire time

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:56 AM
He actually made it thru the 1st turn and looked to be ready to go after the leaders

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:57 AM
I saw him get sideways and knew it was going to make for good pics:p

Pappy
05-21-2006, 08:58 AM

Pappy

Pappy

Pappy

Im just glad he was ok...I hate seeing anyone get busted up

TWISTED
05-21-2006, 09:06 AM
Yeah, he's got a knack for it. Very rarely has any issues, except for when we go to a restraunt, and he orders the same damn thing everytime!!!! Once we get him over that, he'll be fine.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 09:07 AM
Cody clearing the table....when he hit it in 4th pinned and barely got over it...he and I both knew the engine was lazy. its only like a 50 footer

Pappy
05-21-2006, 09:10 AM
Delaware152 got tangled at the start of the second moto:grr: i was looking forward to seeing him win this sucka

Pappy
05-21-2006, 09:18 AM
As I watched thru the lens at the riders in the middle of the picture, I noticed the rider high on the corner and thought to myself...FENCE!

05-21-2006, 09:19 AM
maybe his engien is just pooched, i dont know to much aboot it but im sure those 90cc arent built to be raced on and abused.

Pappy
05-21-2006, 09:19 AM
Luckily he did not get hung up in it

Pappy
05-21-2006, 09:22 AM
Austin and Cody both took wins by them being the only one's in thier classes. For Austin, thats awesome, you made your first race and have a kick *** plaque for your room!!!

Pappy
05-21-2006, 09:26 AM
Cody wasnt satisfied that he did not run down the leaders and win the overall, even from a staggared start. He was pissed his quad wouldnt run....but was happy he atleast got a race under his belt.

You can be sure i will be doing a compression test, and anything else required to either get this engine where it needs to be, or i will be installing something with MUCH more power.

I will try and post a few more pics tonight, but I want to say how much fun we had, it was great seeing everyone again and meeting more atvrider.com members. We look forward to doing it all again soon.

Glad to hear you made it to actiontown. I can fill you in on a few of the guys that were there racing. A class winner was Nick Shoupe 133, in your pic with del152 passing Ian Smith 171. I know a lot of the other pics and guys also but its hard to give a write up on pics already posted. There were alot of guys who chat on this website at that race, who should see these pics. Do you have any of A rider 88, I was not able to go and watch my quad run so I would like some pics if you have them, Thanks. Good job Fredericksburg Mafia.

Ok...new computer is FUBAR but I am back up on my old one.

Checked out Codys quad, all I could find was a fuel leak at the petcock and his seat broke. I think, when his seat broke, the tab that used to hold the front of the seat to the frame pinched the intake tube 1/2 closed, and when he would land hard or apply pressure to the seat it would choke the engine out.

He did a great job IMO. He was talking one minute, then the anthem started. Everyone turned around looking for a flag but there wasnt one. We did see many folks just sitting around and laying around in the sun....kind of disrespectful if you ask me.

In any event, I would rather have lisetend to him sing then a few of the pro singers I have heard sing it:p

D7 represented very well this past weekend at Actiontown. We were a big reason they had such good numbers. There was some good riding going on. Nick Shupe #133 for getting the hole shot in both A motos and leading from start to finish. Delaware152 for the most impressive ride of the day in the 2nd moto of the A class. He got caught up in the first turn and I believe his quad was rolled and shut off. He got back on and had to be at least 30 seconds behind and passed all the way to 2nd place in just 6 laps. That was fun to watch. Last but not least, old #74, Sean Ladue, for coming out of retirement and not riding since November last year to take the win in the first moto of the Vet class. Whose an animal, Sean Ladue.

Got to agree...D7 was well represented....JT is a wild man....Nick did a hell of a job but JT was coming on strong.....

JT would have been my bet for both motos....

I saw him wreck at the start and was like.....oh no..lol He put on an impressive comeback.

This Z400 rider just didnt have any luck. He blew his carrier to pieces, then wrecked Honda5's R . No damage to speak of, just a good case of track rash

There were lots of good riders throughout the day

He was a little nervous the first few times hitting them...he did right by keeping his nose up. The next race there will hopefully be a different story with a motor thats running correctly:p
