i just rode my new 06450er. had a 400ex
this quad is fast. i think its geared a little tall though. i cant seem to wheelie as good on it copmared to my 400ex. takes a little more effort..
the stock exhaust is really quiet. thinking about taking the baffle out. What is the stock size main jet??
the more i ride it the more i love it.......
soon as i get r broke in i'm heading to little sahara

hard to wheelie ? I cant keep my front end down for the first 3 gears, I have to sit on the tank.
4th will come up if I sit at the back of the seat and 5th will come up with a tug on the bars.
get the hrc kit too.
the 400ex is a pretty good wheelie machine with a great balance point.
I think as you get use to it you will find the right spot.

I just sold my 400ex and bought a 06 450er als. At first I thought the gearing was alittle tall, but now I am use to it and think it's fine. As far as wheelies, the 400ex has a wider balance point, if that makes any sense, but the 450r power makes it easy to pull up at any speed and accelerating wheelies is a breeze. The balance point on the 450r is just a little further up I think. After riding some, I feel just as good wheeling on the 450 as the 400ex except for slow 1st gear wheelies. Out on the dunes, your new 450 will make it very hard for you to quit smiling. If you get the HRC kit, it will solve all your concerns for jetting and removing the baffle in the exhaust. Honda has it all figured out for you.

I got my 450r 4 days ago, also coming from a 400ex. At first I thought the gear was SUPER tall, but after about 3 hours of riding I now love it. I could never go back to the way the 400 was geared, 1st gear is actually useful now!

And I feel more comfortable doing wheelies on the 450r now then I did on my 400. Just feels more natural to me, I think it’s because of the broader rang of power the 450 has.

I also just got an 06' 450R and I'm coming from a 400EX. All I can say is WOW. I can't wait to take it to the dunes. I'm thinking I'll put the HRC kit on it sometime soon and call it good for motor mods, maybe add a slip-on down the road.

I just rode my 450 for the 1st time also - also coming from my 440 and yeah - I killed it a few times and it kinda wanted to die just putting around - so I just changed the 14t front sprocket to a 13tooth - I haven't ridden it since - but will be this weekend - I did the same on my old 440 and really liked it - I'm a 2nd gear start kinda guy - prob. just use the 14tooth at the dunes

I bought mine with hrc installed already. I had my sparks pipe sitting here waiting for my R to arrive. I didn't install the exhaust till after the first oilchange.

All I can say was this thing is insane. I had to widen it and revalve the shocks to make it handle the power I have. Now with that all done my R is a handful. I love the power second gear starts are a breeze with stock gearing.

The stock jet is a 120 for the main... If you want to give it some more power but the Yoshi exhaust on works great...

The 450r don't wheelie as easy because the wheel base is over 2 inch's longer than the 400ex

Seems like everyone starts out the same when they get a new R but after a little riding no one would ever go back to whatever bike they hade before. As a diehard honda fan this is all very good to hear. I too immediately fell in love with it when i stradled it the first time and until honda builds a better bike will never ride anything else........:)

When I road my R I had it already built for mx so I can’t say much about it stock. But for a mostly stock motor I think it dose had good power and pulls hard. It just seems to me that Honda thinks of the little things, I mean who came our with the chain adjustment that everyone is using now. But I don’t plan on getting rid of mine anytime soon. Will just rebuild her at the end of the season and go again next year.
