My daughters lt 80 seems to be losing spark. When I get it to start it runs great but it sometimes does not want to start. The starter will crank and crank but it will not fire. I guess my options are the stator, coil assembly or rectifier assembly. Does anyone have any ideas which may be causing starting problems and how to check these components? Thanks for any help you could provide.

Ours has had trouble like that, it was usually the coil.

I seem to be getting the pulse signal from the stator to the coil. Is the other wire just ground??? If so I guess the coil is bad. Thanks.

2 wires comming from the stator::
red/black is the ignition.
white/red is the charging.

I'd believe it's the coil bit I'd check the spark plug cap. They suck. I use a NGK snowmobile cap as it will not pop off.

Thanks, I believe the cap to be ok. I hope it is because I have a coil on order. Your reply stated from the stator red/black is ignition and white/red is for charging? At the coil I have red/black and white/BLACK is that a ground? The coil housing seems to be a plastic so I'm assuming it gets ground from that white/BLACK wire.

I'd agree on the ground. :)
