Should you be able to start a 400ex while it is gear while the clutch is released?

as long as u havent messed with the stock clutch lever perch, or any other wires, no.

The only thing I have done is install a tether switch but it would start in gear before that. I just got it saturday and I hate to take it back to the dealer already.
