I just put a 450 r carb on my 416 listed in my sig, it has a 198k main stock needle setting and pilot jet 2.5 turns out on fuel screw. it winds out awesome but it seems that my stock carb had more "zip" on low end. it doesnt seem to pop it might bog a little bit but it's very hard to tell. what should i check or try out next to get that response back.

well. it could be a couple of things. i would bet that being that the carb is a bit bigger, you've lost some velocity down low. or your jetting may be a bit off right at the bottom. maybe too big/little a pilot jet or too much fuel from accelerator pump choking the motor out, maybe air/fuel screw needs adjustment.
but by the way it sounds, all is good except you lost a little bit of torque......velocity.
not sure what you can do to gain velocity without hurting top end power. im in the middle of testing something out. if it works, ill post it on the site.....

I was also wondering if there is anyway to remedy the stiff throttle lever using the 450 r carb.

strengthen your fore-arms....what altitude are you at? and what is the number on you pilot? stock 450r pilot?

chuck that 450r carb and get yourself an edelbrock. no jets! no starting problems! external needle adjustment! it's the closest thing to fuel injection you can get.

I'm in michigan, probable around 600 feet. I rode thru a full tank of gas today and my thumb didn't get as tired as i thought it would but it seems alot stiffer then my buddies 06 450r. The fuel screw is 2.5 turns out and I believe it has the stock pilot in it.

so does it "bog" on take off or just have less performance than the stock carb at low speeds?

it is less snappy, like when i'm in 3rd or 4th when i pull into a wheelie, i have to pull harder than i used to and also when doing a first gear wheelie when holding the throttle at 1/3 or so steadily the motor doesn't seem to run very smooth it is kinda choppy. The jetting isn't really far enough off to notice weather it's bogging or popping but today when "engine braking" down some big hills it got a bit of a light poppy sound to it occasionally.

unscrew your air screw another 1/2 turn and lower your clip on the needle one spot, i bet that helps a ton!, i have no airbox, pipe, cam and stuff, and im running a 200main, 3 turns and last clip on the needle at sea level

thats the worst advise yet, if you have an edlebrock carb and your quad runs at all your 1 out of ALOT of people to have any luck with them.

Sounds to me like you jetting is to fat for your setup, that low end sluggishness may be that your getting to much fuel but once you get it wound out it is finally using all the fuel. Lean it out some with air/fuel screw or take that main jet down a few sizes.

I am surprised to hear you say that about Edelbrock carbs. I have had nothing but good experiences with them on cars and my quad. Well, to each his own I guess.

I think i got her about perfect, I was suprised to see that the clip on the needle was on the bottom already. My settings now are at 48 pilot, 205 main, clip on the 4th spot on the needle and fuel screw at 3 turns out and she rips. thanks for all the input.
