Im seriously concidering throwing a crf motor in my 400ex.

heres why, now I have a nicely set up 400ex. suspention is how I like it, many thousands spent on this quad. I Realy want a 450 to be competeitive racing. I do fine on the mx track, But on the holeshots I eat major dirt. My baby 400 just isnt cutting it anymore. I have just about anything/everythign done to my motor. I dont want to just sell this quad, and go buy a new 450r because It wouldent have the suspention that my 400 has now, I woud have to spend thousands to get it set up. shocks, axle, a-arms ext...

So I was thinking of selling my 416, this motor has about 15 hours on it scence I went throu the entire motor. This motor has thousands of dolars of work done to it. I should be able to get 1200 for it right? thing has serious balls for a 400 will strech your arms out.

I read up that JB racing sells a crf conversion. Anyone know if they sell a kit. I'm a capible welder, steel, aluminum, u name it.

lets say swaping motors costs me 3000. Just a guess, mabie someone can let me know how acurate I am.
I sell my motor for 1200$ lets say.
aftermarket aluminum oil tank for 100$
39mm fcr carb for 200$
cdi for 30$
lrd full exaust system 200$

thats 1,270$.

a lot less than selling my whole quad for 4,500 which wouldent hapen. and buying a 450r that has competitive suspetion for 7,000. Im still doing good..

sounds like an awesome plan the crf would definately be the way to go, u seem to have the skills and stuff to do it, good luck selling that motor, seems like a niiice motor, maybe put some in depth specs of it so everyone can see and maybe you'll find a buyer here....good luck that quad is niiice good job....all flat tires i love it, ride it like ya stole it i guess

ya, I just put the bead rings on the tires, never filled them up with air... But ya, beadlock wheels dont hold air to great.

Im going to call some places today see what I can do about buying a conversion kit, gussit kit, ext

I'd go with JB Racing for the conversion. You'll have to send him your swingarm and frame and tell him what year the engine is and also measure the bottom engine mount width so he knows how wide to make the space for that mount. Also his turn around depends on how busy he is. The other things you'll need are to cut out the front upper rail on your subframe to better align your your air boot up to the carb, and to find a water pump cover that relocates your water line to the radiator for a straight shot. Here are some pics of mine, and the frame was done by JB Racing. If you have any more questions about doing this let me know I'd be glad to answer them.

thanks for the good info. I called JB racing and talked briefly. They said I could buy a "kit" for 300$. Im not shure how much stuf comes with the kit. I will call back tomorrow, mabie talk to a mechanic or somthing to find out exactly what I would need to do. To decide wether or not I should ship it off to them or just do it myself.
