I am going to buy the Cam Chain for my ex I was told by another member to get a 2002 CRF450 chain. Is this going to be the same thing as a heavy duty chain that I would buy for the ex? I have the part number 14401-MEB-671 ...Is this the right chain? Im just trying to make sure I am buying the right thing. Also can anyone maybe show/help me threw the cam chain install? How hard is it? What all has to be taken off? Thanks guys!

Do I have to remove the head to do this?

you will need to remove the valve cover, and the right engine case, the clutch, the cam chain tensioner, and then you should be able to route it up through using a piece of wire.

Sorry I can't help you with identifying the correct chain.

there is another guy here on the forum who just did this mod, he has a pic and it shows the chain not sitting completely on the sprocket. i think its in the powertrain section under....taka peek at.......
anyway, he has a 2002 crf chain. he posted some questions about if the fit was supposed to be that way. some say yes some no. the ones who say no dont really have experience using this chain, and the others say its good to go.........

so yeah, according to this site, you have the right chain.

You have the right cam chain, slap her in there, fire it up and cross your fingers that you got rid of the noise....

The "experienced" guys will tell you it is the right one......:macho

I just had my cam chain installed and I don't recall any slack. It was a little wider,, stonger.

Most places you call on line (I would contact C&D racing) will let you know if it will fit. But personally if you need parts contact Colby @ C&D racing,, great person and definately knows how to build.

good luck

Not trying to hijack, but what benefits do the beefier cam chains have?

Chino you said hope the noise is gone, does the CRF Cam chain get rid of the valve noise?

NO, he is getting some noise on the right side of his cylinder, which is where his cam chain is, he decked the head which in turn lowered the overall height of the motor, so I guessed that he had slack in the chain slapping on the walls.

The cam chain will not get rid of valve noise.
