Whats causing it?

I changed my oil and found a decent ammount of metal chips in my oil and my oil filer. Could anyone tell me whats causing this? I'm taking my engine in to get repaired, but I just want to know beforehand. Thanks.

Did you rebuild the top end ever? If its your first time changing the oil when rebuilt you should have metal flakes in your filter.

I bought it used, but I'm pretty sure the previous owner changed the oil...
