Way too much man and the main thing I would change would be buying from HP..I have had a few of their computers and they were way over priced for what I got and barely lasted the year and always crapped out JUST after the warranty was up.. then they wanted $50 just to talk to me on the phone because the warranty was up..I would never buy from them again..I just bought a brand new Dell with almost identical things to what you mentioned except for I have an 80 gig HD and 1 gig ram..other than that Identical..It cost me $901 total after shipping and everything and I am 10 times happier already with this than I ever was with my other 2 HP's that lasted only 1 year..Just some advice..save your money and speak with Dell..

to save some $$ id drop the XP pro and use home instead unless youre logging onto a domain, then strip out as much RAM as possible and buy aftermarket memory. (less expensive, more efficient and lifetime wty)

take the savings and buy more warranty

otherwise.. nice..
imagine what kind of desktop you can get for that money..

You can get a much much better Laptop for that amount of cash.

Check out a Dell or Toshiba. For $2000-2500 you should have the holy grail of Laptops.. or you're getting ripped. ;)

For what you're looking for (a gaming machine, obviously), you're going to spend about $1600-1700. If you just want it for school and don't plan on playing graphics/memory intensive games you should only be spending $900

Jus don't get a mac. they have multiple problems with the backlight in the lcd. they also have serious issues when it comes to their logicboard/motherboards. our school grades 6 through 12 have these laptops and i see the same problem almost everyday. the good thing about them is that they don't have any issues when it comes to viruses or spyware. but basically mac's operating system is jus a souped up version of linux. so if you ask me they are just cheap computers all around. i'd recomend any of the dell laptops or voodoo laptops(amazing).

Major overkill... especially with the RAM... 2 gig's is way high for XP IMO. 1 gig will do just fine.

I just got a new Dell Laptop for work... 2ghz, 1 gig RAM and a 80 gig HD... it runs just about everything as smooth as it can be run. I usually have around 8 different programs and 5-6 LARGE excel sheets open at the same time too...

If you want a true powerhouse, don't invest in a laptop... you can get twice the machine for half the money in a desktop.

I never understood people that try to buy gaming laptops... major waste of money - unless you are a hardcore traveling gamer...

you must have had some bad luck then cause i have a HP pavillion desktop. We have had it since 99. It had its problems, but it was covered under warrenty. HP swore up and down that XP would not be compatible with it, and then my sister got an Ipod and we needed XP so I got my friends disk and installed it and it works better than the day we got it. It has a Pentium III Processor with 256mb of ram. It will be the chit out of my friends new Dell any day.

I'd get a better processor (2.0 is fine though) and a better graphics card (at least 256MB).

so your going to overpay for hardware now, when you wont need it for quite sometime?

Personally I'd just get what you need, and upgrade later... memory will only be cheaper when vista comes out...

to each their own...
