what size tires are you guys running? my 440 with a 16/36 was clocked in the mid to high 70s but that was with a carb, pipe, cam, ported and polished head ect. i was running 20s. the 416 can rev faster being its a lighter smaller piston. you might want to check your jetting, do you have a pipe? have you re-jetted it since you bored it out? bigger piston needs more gas, first thing you should check out is your jetting. next how big are you? im a pretty light kid about 145lbs. put me on a stock 400 next to a 300lb dude on an identical quad id kill him in every drag, so weight can make a differance.

try running different gearing?....is he maxing out at a higher top speed or just getting to his top speed quicker?

are you running out your gearing? is it hitting the rev limiter in 5th. if it is you should be out running him in top speed. like i was saying with my 440 and that gearing i was in the high 70s. but then when my buddy hopped on it and i was riding double it would never reach the rev limiter because of the extra weight. kick the front sproket down a tooth for a little more torque.

one more thing, i cant help you on jetting because i was running an edlebrock carb on my 440 and it didnt have jets. you might want to look into getting an edlebrock carb for your 400 i loved mine, it gave good power and it was really easy to work with. all you had to do is twist a screw one way to make it richer then the other way to lean it out. i broke a screw off inside and basically ruined the carb. i called up edlebrock they told me to send it in and they sent me a new as soon as they got it, for free. they didnt evem charge me shipping. alot of people will say the FCR carb is better which it may be, i have never riden it. but the customer support at edlebrock is awsome so i would personally go with edlebrock.
