year of engine?

how do i tell what year my engine is, there is no serial number on the crank case,????

Look by the shifter, should have a metal plate rivoted to it with the motor number. If your motor is apart your cylinder will also be stamped on the edge of the sleeve, exhaust side if I remember correctly, if its still the stock sleeve.
