Hi All,

Im new here and looking for my first quad. I don't know a whole lot about them and am just looking for something cheap to get me started.

I've found one in my local paper for sale, however the owner has not ridden it for a long time and doesnt seem to know a lot about it.

He says its a 1986 Honda TRX 250. It's four stroke, 5 speed, and no reverse.

I can't seem to find any information on the net; does anyone know anything about these bikes? are they more suited to a farm , or are they a sports bike? What kind of top speed do they have?

I'm hoping it's a decent atv to learn on! I'd enclose a picture, but i cant seem to work out how. Thanks!

Ryan

I'm going to guess its a 250x. They look just like a 300ex. They are decent quads to learn on. Only drawback is that they are kickstart. Hard for some new riders to start. Try a search four a 250x or go to the 350cc and under forum on here and check some pics out.

250X's didn't start until 87, and they had reverse... I think...

Thats what i was thinking it would be. Those old hondas are bullet proof. You can ride them through hell and back and they keep goin. They aren't anything speical as far as handling, or power goes, but they won't die.

can you guys give me anymore info? What's its top speed, handling etc like.

The guy says it runs fine and doesnt blow any smoke.

He's asking $500 aussie dollars for it. Thanks!

I would say it does about 40-45. My friend has one, the same year, and it is bulletproof. His dad bought it new, and its still running fine. We take it on to his mx track all the time, we figured we could kill it pretty easy, but its still going.

hey 250xridamatt whats it like to ride, does it have a bit of power and acceleration or is it just ****?

it is slow...it would be an avertage pulling machine if you had a small log or 2 to pull. if you want speed and acceleeration, look for a 300ex/250x
