426ex Vs. yfz450 Vs. trx450r

Ok, so Im kinda new to this whole 4 stroke thing. I currently ride a modded banshee, but im getting tired of it. I would like a 450 or something power wise close. I do a lot of trail riding, but also a lot of drag racing. Usually hill climb. ( Bull gap area) What machine would be adequate. I have lots of diff stories on punching out the 400ex to 416, 426, and 440. But the 426 seems to be the best for the middle of the road. But how does it compare. Thanks. All other suggestions are welcome as well. Z400, kfx 400 but with what mods.... Or is there a general thread somewhere where some one has compared these already.?

my 426 will hang with and beat stock 450's. but if they are modded i am toast. a 450 has much more potential than a 400ex does in the long run and seem to be holding up decent. i say get a 450, and skip the 400ex unless you want to drop some money in the 400ex to hang with the newer bikes.

I agree with underpowered, my 416 will keep up with stock 450's but once they've got a pipe and filter they're gone.

I have both, Two 400ex's and a 04 450r. I have work done to both 400s and they just dont compare. Just because people say they can hang with another quad you have to take away the other rider. These two guys say they keep up with a 450 but maybe that rider just isnt as good as of rider. The only downfall is the kick start, unless you go brand new. As a rider of both spend a lil extra up front and get the 450. You should be very satisfied, You will not like the 400 as much after being a 2 stroke rider.

I have a worked 440EX and have no problems keeping up with and beating piped and cammed 04/ 05 450rs in a drag. Anything more than that, and an 06 450r with minor mods like an HRC kit will still eat me up. This is just keeping up with them in a drag though. The 450s still dominate over the 400EX in pretty much all other catagories. Just get 450. :macho

my 416 will also hang with or beat the stock 450s. once they do a few mods I cant hang in a drag though. I guess every one of them that I beat the guys couldnt ride...I would say it depends on how you build your motor...I have rans lots of other 416s and 440s that I have beat also but have also ran others that have beat me. mine dynoed in at 38.2hp that is 6 more ponies than the 450 quad chaser dynos in stock. yes there is more potential in a 450 but seeing the look on a guys face after he dropped 7g on a new 450 to get whooped by a 400 is priceless...lol now he has to spend more to save face

I had a 460EX and sold it about 4 months ago and got a 450R for christmas and started to mod it right away!! My old 460ex which is no owned by my best freind will keep up with my 450R in a 100 yard drag but once you get to anything over 200 yards It is just a pathetic loss of the 460EX... I can dominate in longer drags but the short drags he can keep up but I still win.
