Just wondering if anybody has pulled or does pull a little enclosed trailer with a s10 pickup truck? I have a 2003 S10 ZR2 and I am thinking about buying an enclosed trailer to pull my quad with. I seen a trailer today flying down the highway that was really low and I thinjk that it the kind that I want, I just cant seem to find any.

I would like it to be big enough to fit two quads in (at times but usually just one), and a toolbox and stuff...

what do you mean really low? and a s10 will pull a 2 1/2 quad trailer easily. you wont have a problem with it.

By saying "low" I mean that you wouldnt be able to stand up in it, it was so you can pretty much just slide your quad in and leave it.

How do you think it would pull a 6x12?

I dont think it would

we have a 6x12 and my brothers toyota tundra with a i-force v-8 in it gets 10 miles to the gallon while pulling it and ussually gets 18

but it is 6 and a half foot high but it is a vnose

I dont think a s 10 would pull one if it did it would be close and get horrible gas mileage

wow thats weird, my tundra gets about the same when we pull the boat which is 26ft and weights more im sure... I wonder why, you'd think it would be less...

We had a 16ft and a 24ft enclosed and towed it with our zr2 every weekend!

I just recently sold my 01' s-10 blazer zr2 which I used to pull a 30' travel trailer. It pulled way better than you would think. The pickup will pull it better. They have very strong engines for towing, just dont expect good gas mileage or going much over 60mph.

you will be fine with something 16ft or less. no problems...get a vnose it will help on the gas milage...the 4.3L is a good motor...gas mileage is a combo of weight, gear ratio and how heavy your foot is.

Yup, my bro pulls a 18ft boat and a 2 place snowmobile trailer with his 2wd 4.3 s10. Never had a problem, that motor makes good power for a 6.

you should be OK so long as you get a short one(height), my Mom's Astro (same engine and trans) didn't do real well with my new 6x12. ran ok at 60 and got about 11 mpg, but then again the trailer is over 6 feet tall inside. it looks about like the silver one above.

the height it extremely important in how a enclosed trailer will tow.

Ok thanks. I have pulled an open trailer with two quads on it and it pulled fine, I have just never pulled an enclosed before. Do you know of any website that I can check out the short (in height) trailers at? I tried ebay, no luck.

I just want an enclosed for security purposes. To many f****** hoodlums!

where are you at in Illinois?

I would look around at Haulmark, American Hauler, Pace, US Cargo, and Intersate trailers and see if someone makes something in the 4 1/2-5 ft range as a base trailer. You can get anything you want by order but your best bet would be try and find something on someone's lot or used.

We have been buying trailer and accessories from Johnson's Trailers in Ogden and they treat us well.

Our Bravada (4.3L V6) pulls our 18' trailer with 5 quads on it no problem, the rearend just squats a little bit.

Unless you are pulling it across the country dont waste youre money on a short trailer. You will regret it in a year and want a taller one.

Open and enclosed pull very different, my explorer pulls a 16 open with 4 quads on it fine, in over dirve actually, but cant hold 50 in the wind with my 6x12

I agree, but if you need to make some compromises so you don't have to buy a new truck, then height is one I would be willing to compromise on

I really like the looks of the low profile tailers- Im not really planning on spending much time inside of the trailer so that shouldnt be a problem, I figure that I can get one of those canopy things that you put over picnic tables it I need to stay out of the rain/sun to work on something

whatever you choose, please be careful with the weight of the trailer and the affects of it (specifically on a corner) with a short wheelbase, if you take a corner too fast, you may find yourself upside down. but, if you are careful and take the correct precautions, you shouldnt have any probe. i have towed enormous loads with my step dads 4 cyl toyota single cab that i was very surprised to be able to tow. but for gas mileage, open beds are the best. i have a 18foot open, and i get several mpg than an closed trailer, but for security, an closed trailer is great. i chose the priceline. i chain the hell out of my quads and bikes so.... just be careful in trailering and you will be fine. but just in case, have a trailer that you can control the brakes. that way, if the trailer gets wiey, hit the button and she will straighten out

Well I pull a 21' trailer around the second busiest city in Illinois everyday of my life, so pulling a trilaer is no problem, I was just wondering about my s10 pulling it.

I was at Farm and Fleet today and I was just checking out this 6x12 trailer and I really liked the size of it. but I dont know if I am ready to spend $2600 on one. But then again I dont want my quad gone either...

Ok I have been looking around and here are a few trailers that I might be interested in.

this one is a 7x12 Haulmark trailer that is the "low"
type- so I wouldnt be able to stand up in it since I am 6'2" tall
- I like the double axle, v-nose, ramp door and side door

would I be better off getting a taller trailer so I can walk around inside of it, or do most people not work on stuff inside of it?

parkers30
05-18-2006, 09:13 PM
thats a really nice trailer! a 7x12 should allow three quads sideways, but it will be tight. The v-nosemakes a big difference in how it pulls

as far as walking around inside, if it is tall enough you'll do it alot, I have a work bench big tool box and cabinets in mine and I am always walking around in there, but it never bothered me that my old 5x8 was super short

tazman7
05-18-2006, 09:15 PM
Here is the inside of one like this- They said it is only 7' tall on the outside...so I am guessing that it is only about 5' on the inside of the trailer

Here is their website- they seem to make decent stuff!! http://www.rnrtrailers.com/default.htm

those motor cycle trailer are expensive!

I'll grab somepictures of the inside of my trailer this weekend

tazman7
05-18-2006, 09:18 PM
Yeah they are- I have been searching for a used one but no luck...I guess I might be dreaming on this trailer since I only want to spend like $2500...haha

I seen one at Farm and Fleet the other day that I liked too. But it was all riveted, and I have been hearing people say that them are junk...I dont know why becasue airplanes are held together by rivets.

parkers30
05-18-2006, 09:22 PM
Riveted? most trailers have the 8 point screws on the outside.

I got my Haulmark Transport 6x12 with ramp gate, stone guard, jacks on the rear for $2500 plus taxes

As far as being able to stand up inside at 6'2" you won't findmany 6x12s that are that tall, I know our race body 24' is only 6'5 inside and mine is right at 6'1"

Where did you get your trailer from? What brand is it? Thanks

Haulmark, from Johnson's Trailer sales in Ogden. If you are on a tight budget and don't mind a drive you might check out one John's trailer sales, or Detro Trailers basically any of the big volume trailer dealers in the region

Is yours a v-nose? Have you pulled both and does it make a difference?

parkers30
05-18-2006, 09:41 PM
yeah it is a small, like 18" v nose, I have not pulled similiar trailers with and without the v but everyone I have talked to says it makes a big difference, especially the real deep v's

tazman7
05-19-2006, 09:55 PM
Ok so I borrowed an enclosed trailer from a friend of the family. It is a 16' v-nose motorcycle trailer (the short style) and I loaded up my stuff tonight and pulled it home, it pulls great! (well for an s10 that is...)

I wouldnt want to pull it through the mountains with my truck but for us flatlanders it seems to do the trick.

He wants to sell it to me for $4000. That is a little steep, but it is a sweet trailer! It is brand new in 2005 and he has only used it like 3 times. And he paid $5000 for it, then rhino lined the floor.
Ill post pics tomorrow night

tazman7
05-23-2006, 09:28 PM
Here are some pics- It is 16' long. The guy I borrowed it from said he would sell it to me for $4000. It is a 2005 and he only put 600 miles on it. He paid well over $6000 for it. It is all aluminum. Should I get it?

is that 16' with the v nose or without? how wide inside, looks to be around 6'

tazman7
05-23-2006, 09:51 PM
it is 16' from the back to the tip of the nose on the outside.
I think it is 6' wide on the inside but I will measure tomorrow

Pretty sweet trailer huh?

i've got a 7 x 12 carson single axle 3500lb. gvw. we pull it with a 3.4 tacoma, 4.6 f150 and also the motorhome. pulls great behind any of them. it's light enough that it doesn't need breaks so there is hassle hooking it up top anything with a tow ball on it. 7' wide really makes a big difference in room inside and it's about 6'6" tall inside.

John's and Detro both do, but they only seem to have general information about trailer types, models, etc. I don't remember seeing much pricing.

Johnson's does not but they are a great business, about an hour and half from the Peoria area fill me in on what you are looking for and I'll see what I can come up with, my dad and I seem to be pretty good at finding deals on trailers
